This past weekend ended up being a bit more challenging than what I expected.... )

Yay! I finally finished updating my LJ. (does a happy dance)

* It started snowing ten minutes after I got home. Nice timing.

* Just had someone from USPS come to the door to deliver a package. She didn't ring the doorbell to let me know it was here. No...she just tossed it on the top stoop...from the walk. I heard it go THUD. And there's a new wireless router in there! If it doesn't work, we know who to blame...

* [livejournal.com profile] doomsey claims I told him to shut up in German when he interrupted me while I was doing my homework. I assure you that anything I told him was in English. I don't even know how to say shut up in German yet! *goes to look it up now that he mentioned it*

* How to say, "Shut up," in German in order of increasing rudeness: in order of increasing rudeness: 1) Halt den Mund!; 2) Halt die Klappe!; 3) Halt's Maul!; 4) Maul halten!; 5) Halt die Schnauze!; 6) Schnauze! (Swiped from Yahoo Answers)

* Yesterday I found out that Fishermen's Inn was closed. Today I found out that Trader Vic's was re-opened. Whoo-hoo! I'm half tempted to ask [livejournal.com profile] doomsey if we can go there to celebrate my birthday in September.

* I'd never try this, but amusing nonetheless. (Swiped from [livejournal.com profile] sphix)

* Two-hundred food-related t-shirts. This one is kind of cute. I also think this is kind of funny. Bwahahaha! Look closely at this shirt. Do you see it? (Link swiped from [livejournal.com profile] tx_cronopio)

* Speaking of t-shirts. I still want this shirt!

*

Can it be spring now?

Oh joy...eight to ten inches of snow tomorrow.

Well, on the bright side, I can go out with the camera and take some pretty pictures.

Here it is! The video! As promised!

This is my first attempt at editing videos. I learned how to use imovie as a I went along. Notice how the end is a little bit more sophisticated then the beginning. I always thought video editing was beyond me, but after playing around with it, I discovered that it really wasn't that hard.

Oh...and I tried to use Foreigner's "Cold as Ice" in the background, but stupid YouTube muted it. Many thanks to both YouTube and the recording studio in question for stifling creativity. I ended up going back to the video, removing the original song, and substituting "Comfortably Numb" by Pink Floyd. It kind of works.

Actually, I heard that YouTube is muting a lot of videos lately because it lost a contract with a recording studio. Next time, I'm going to have to do a search for the song I plan to use on YouTube to see if the videos were muted or pulled before I put it in a video.

It's currently about -6 outside. About an hour ago, I boiled water, took it outside, and threw it up in the air. As [livejournal.com profile] hakeber said, instant snow! It wasn't as cathartic when I used water that was at room temperature though. You could see it freezing on the ground right away though...

Oh...I have video! Once I edit it, I'll post it to YouTube with a link.

[Edit: I'm also thinking about going out there again when it's a bit colder...maybe around -10...to see what kind of results I get. And of course I'll bring the camera provided I can get it to work in low light].

My thermometer says -10F outside. Wow. That is extremely cold. And I have to go out in that today. Oh joy!

My husband is actually going outside to plow snow. He must be nuts.

Last night, I went downstairs, picked [livejournal.com profile] cosettemonster up, and put her under the covers with me. Yesterday and the day before, I noticed that she was walking a bit stiff-legged as if her back leg with the bone chip were acting up again. She must be arthritic because of all of the bad weather we've been having. Poor kitty! I'm hoping that keeping her warm last night helped things.

What? My cats are spoiled, you say? What makes you think that?

The weather isn't as bad as what they were forecasting for today. I think I'm going to take my dad in for his test this morning. I'm also going to poke [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and tell him he has to go in to work today.

Tee hee! There's an overturned cheese truck in Indiana. Mmmmmm...cheese. Can I have some?

Weather Forecast )

So...yeah. The weather here is going to suck for the next two days. I'm supposed to take my dad to the hospital for his blood tests tomorrow morning. [livejournal.com profile] doomsey is telling me that, if it's as bad as what they say it's going to be, he's not going to let me out of the house. After reading the above, my reaction was pretty much, "point taken." Fortunately, he doesn't have an appointment scheduled for a specific time. It's a walk in thing. I might wait until the afternoon when it's not going to be as bad. I'll see how things are when I wake up tomorrow.

So...are any of you in the Chicago area planning on going to work tomorrow?

[livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I went out to Trader Joe's this afternoon so that I could get stuff for baking and other things. It's not just cold. It is *fucking* cold! Right now, it's -2 degrees. Tonight, the lows are going to be between -5 and -9 with a wind chill of -20 to -30. Brrrrr!!! Cold Cold Cold!

Snow Day!

It was eerily quiet here this morning. I think a lot of people took the weather warnings to heart and stayed home from work. Usually, since our house is close to the expressway, I can hear the traffic in the mornings, but this morning...nada. It looks like we didn't get as much snow as what they were originally forecasting yesterday. Now they're saying that total storm accumulation is going to be two to five inches. Maybe, with the economy being the way it is, the meteorologists decided we need more drama to increase ratings. /sarcasm Actually, I heard that they got quite a bit of snow further north. Looks like we got lucky.

Our district has a snow day today, so now the next-door neighbor's kids are out.

More Rain!

I just got off the phone with my mother. Her house is still taking on water. Fortunately, it's just seepage and it's not out-and-out flooding. Earlier today, she got an automated phone call from her town telling people to stay out of flooded basements. She assumed that a couple of people managed to get themselves electrocuted. They're also setting up a shelter at a local high school because of some flooding west of her. Apparently, they've been evacuating homes in that area.

I also heard that my brother-in-law fixed a garage door at a house whose basement was flooded up to the rafters. Eek!

This storm is doozy. And we haven't gotten any of the moisture from Hurricane Ike yet!

Eep!

The neighbors across the street have a foot and a half of water in their basement. Oh...they're also in Hawaii. Our next-door neighbors are pumping it out. We have some really generous neighbors.

Our basement is also getting some seepage, but it's not flooding. Our basement usually tends to stay dry.

We do have a small lake towards the back of our backyard. My garden is also flooded. I have a feeling that I'm going to lose my plants out there...

Gah!

This weather is crazy. It's storming again, and we're getting some pretty bright lightening (and pretty loud too).

But it can't possibly be global warming! /sarcasm

Whoa!

I looked at wunderground again. The local storm report said that there was a tornado spotted on the ground in my town a little after eight. I told [livejournal.com profile] doomsey earlier that I could have sworn I heard something that sounded like a train beneath the thunder. Looks like I wasn't wrong. Fortunately, our power hasn't gone out. I'm surprised. Maybe it was on the other side of town?

It looks like the worst is over. Once they cancel the tornado warning, I'm going to go upstairs.

[Edit: And they cancelled it. Time to go upstairs!]

So...the cats are all accounted for. I wanna go outside and watch. Storms are cool.

[livejournal.com profile] doomsey didn't like the idea very much though. I did get a glimpse out the window as I was grabbing things to take downstairs with me. It was pretty dark.

I forgot my sandals. I thought I threw them downstairs during my dash to find the cat, but I didn't. I hope the house doesn't blow away because I have nothing to wear. I'm tempted to sneak up there and look for them.

[Edit 1: Looks at the radar. So...the little red patch is right over us. *gulp*].
[Edit 2: And the sirens have started wooping again. Maybe I shouldn't have forgotten those shoes, huh?].
[Edit 3: Wow...it's storming out there. I've never heard lightening that close. I'm not sure how long the power is going to stay on. That and the sirens keep shutting off and then going on again].
[Edit 4: I'm so glad we live in a brick house].

You guessed it. I'm hiding in the basement with my cats and my hubby.

Well...that was an exciting dinner. Except the part where I couldn't find my cat and was worrying about her. It turns out that she was downstairs the whole time. Smart cat!

Taking a break from anime night on Wednesday evening to watch the lunar eclipse was amusing. I still can't believe I managed to sit outside in the cold that long. On the other hand, I did lean against a tree. That made it easier. I also had a lot of fun baying (and later meowing) at the moon. How can you not howl when spending that much time looking at the moon?

[Edit: Yes...I know. I'm weird. But you all knew that already...]

This past week, I've found myself wishing that Spring would come soon. I don't think I've ever had cabin fever this bad before. Because of our spate of bad weather this winter, I've started daydreaming about nicer weather. I imagine that it's late Spring, the windows are open, and there's a breeze, which makes the blinds swing back and forth, tapping the wall in the process. I've also imagined that there are robins and other birds singing outside.

I keep telling myself that, in a month, the weather will start to get better. After having been sick this winter, I would love to be able to wake up in the morning right around sunrise and hear the chorus of birds that usually "sing up the sun" or to enjoy spring flowers and blossoms on trees. I also miss watching storms roll in in the spring and summer.

I looked up the weather forecast for tomorrow. Apparently, we're supposed to get a mixture of rain, snow, and ice tomorrow. Since gulf air is colliding with arctic air, they're saying that it's supposed to be quite a storm, and that we're going to get lots of precipitation. I don't think they can predict how much snow we're going to get out of this because it all depends upon where the storm tracks (which they haven't quite figured out) and how quickly the temperature falls. Oh...they're also saying that this storm is going to help set a new record. This February is going to go down in the book as the wettest February in eighty years. Just wonderful.

We're supposed to get six to ten inches of snow tonight? How come I didn't know that?
