The server holding my email is down, so I probably won't be able to read any of my emails until tomorrow morning at the earliest. What a pain in the ass! Let's hope that the computer it's on just needs re-started and that it doesn't need any other work. Otherwise, I will be email-less for a couple of days.

This morning I studied for German class. Then, in the afternoon [ profile] fuzzyscribble and [ profile] samcallahan showed up so that [ profile] doomsey could help [ profile] fuzzyscribble with her computer. It turned out that the poor computer died a horrible death. Fortunately, [ profile] doomsey was able to pull off all the data that she needed. [ profile] fuzzyscribble and [ profile] samcallahan also brought their dog, Re-run, who is a Beagle Coon Hound mix. He's an adorable dog. Anyhow, they put him on a tie-down in the backyard so he wouldn't traumatize my cats too much. Don't worry! He wasn't neglected for too long. [ profile] samcallahan and I sat outside with him for a while while [ profile] doomsey and [ profile] fuzzyscribble worked on the computer.

I also got some time today to do some reading, go for a walk with [ profile] doomsey, and knit. I am four rows from being finished with the hat I'm making for [ profile] doomsey! Aside from the computer server blowing up, it was a pleasant day.

Yeah...I got a little carried away with pictures this week. Also, for someone who doesn't like the snow or the cold, I certainly take a lot of pictures out in the snow and cold. What can I say? At least it's pretty.

I'm three weeks behind! Time to catch up!

* Don't start imitating wolf howls when you're anywhere near [ profile] emygination's dog, Lucy. She will start licking your face........a lot.

* [ profile] doomsey and I went out with Sam, Gracie, and their daughter Claire to a new all you can eat sushi restaurant called Yummy Gourmet on Saturday afternoon. Their sushi was slightly better than Sushi Para's and they had much better service. It's also a bigger restaurant and can accommodate more people.

* Saturday evening, [ profile] doomsey and I saw The Watchmen. Speaking of movies, one of these days I should watch Repo: the Genetic Opera. I've been meaning to see that one for a long time.

* This afternoon, I had a *horrible* asthma attack right before I had to leave for work. I was in a rush to get things done before I left, and I think I did too much running up and downstairs. It ended with me having to take my rescue inhaler. I *hate* taking it because it's a stimulant, and I get very jittery afterward. Then, when the "high" wears off, I feel very drained. On the bright side, at least I'm not drinking caffeine anymore. What I hated the worst was having to take my inhaler after drinking a soda. I would get extremely jittery, so much so that I would hardly be able to write.

* Obnoxious paperwork is obnoxious.

* Will it never stop raining? My pictures of the day last week were boring because it pretty much rained the whole damn week, and I couldn't get outside to take pictures of the fall foliage.

* I thought I had more to say, but I guess not.

I must be getting punch. I made the following comment after watching this video:

"Part of me wonders though if that dog's spinal injury was caused by an elephant stepping on her. :P

Tara: Oops! My bad! Sorry I broke your back!"

[ profile] doomsey got a knife sharpener today as a Hanukkah gift. He must like it because he is in his office sharpening knives as we speak. Hmmm...come to think of it...I have been kind of obnoxious lately. I hope he's not planning to do me in in my sleep. *thinks of the shower scene in Psycho* :)

I got two books from [ profile] emygination for Hanukkah this year: Roald Dahl's Book of Ghost Stories and Neil Gaiman's Coraline. Yep, I definitely like all things macabre. I must be easy to please because books, movies, and knitting gear are definitely my favorite presents.

Let's see. What else did I do today? This morning, I got a call from [ profile] judgys saying that [ profile] almeda and husband were in the hospital because of food poisoning. Their dogs had not been let out since last night, and they needed someone to check on them. [ profile] doomsey and I jumped in the shower and ran to the hospital downtown to pick up a key from them. Then, we headed to their house and let the dogs out. They were obviously tying it in a knot when we got there, but surprisingly, they hadn't made a mess in their cage. Obviously, they made a beeline for the back door. Afterwards, we gave them food and then made sure their water bottle was refilled.

Afterwards, we had the Hanukkah party at [ profile] judygs' house. They had lots of roast beast and potato latkes. Mmmm...I just *love* potato latkes. You know, [ profile] doomsey and I really need to make those sometime. They are awesome.

That's it for me. I am so tired, it's not funny. Off to bed with me!

This video-- which was posted on [ profile] cuteoverload today-- is hysterical.

And in other words...HELP!!! I'm being mobbed by my cats! Maybe they saw the weather outside and decided that I made a nice hot water bottle?

Is there anybody out there on my friends list who is in the Columbus, Ohio area or knows someone in that region who would be interested in adopting a dog? A friend of mine, [ profile] theamaranth, moved out of her apartment and had to give up her two dogs. The shelter she took them to called her yesterday and told her that they were unadoptable and they wanted to put them to sleep. [ profile] theamaranth would be appreciative of any help you could give her. Thanks!

Today, my in-laws had to put their nine-year-old dog, Rico, to sleep. A little over a month ago, they removed a mass from his spleen. Lab results indicated that it was hemangiosarcoma, which is a blood cancer. There really wasn't much they could do to treat it. Eventually, he would get a tumor elsewhere that would rupture and bleed. This was fatal and, supposedly, very painful. I was told that he was okay yesterday, but when he woke up this morning, he was acting very sluggish. He was panting a lot and he was very unsteady on his feet. His stomach was also swollen, which meant that a tumor had ruptured overnight. The poor guy.

This morning, [ profile] judygs called and told us so that we had a chance to say good-bye to him before she took him to the vet. He was a real sweetheart. I'm going to miss him.

Busy Day

Today was also a fairly productive day. Let's see...I went grocery shopping, took a 3.5 mile walk, graded (eek!), and did some weeding outside. [ profile] doomsey went for a short walk this evening, and when he got back, he told me that he saw this little blonde dog following him around. He noticed that it didn't have any tags and he thought it might have been socialized.

I had talked with some of the neighbors previously, and they mentioned that lately, people have been dumping their dogs either in the cemetery or the park by our house. Animal control eventually comes to pick them up and, in the end, they wind up getting put to sleep. My neighbor mentioned that she had seen a black and white dog wandering around the neighborhood. When I was walking past the park a week or so ago, I saw what I thought was a Schnauzer type dog wandering around the parking lot by itself. No one seemed to be watching it. And then, there was this dog.

So...I went outside to see if the dog was on our block, and it was. I tried going after it to see if I could get him corralled and possibly find him a new home. He ended up leading me on a wild goose-chase through my neighborhood. Some neighbors took pity on me and handed me a couple of milk bones to see if I could convince him to come over, but it didn't work. When I did manage to get close to him, he didn't even touch the milk bone I tossed at him. He just sat and barked at me. When I tried to get close, he backed away. I'm wondering if he had been abused by a woman because he seemed to be interested in [ profile] doomsey when he was out there, but not me. (By this point, [ profile] doomsey had given up and gone home. I was the only dumbass out there trying to help out this dog). Eventually, I ended up giving up and going back home. The dog didn't seem that social and he probably wouldn't have made a good pet. My guess is that he would have ended up being put to sleep at a shelter anyway. Damn it. I really hate people who just up and abandon pets.

I still have two milk bones. I'm thinking that I'm going to carry them in a pocket or something when I go for my walk. That way, if I see something like this again, I can try to do something about it if the dog is sufficiently socialized.

There's video floating around on the internet of two soldiers stationed in Iraq throwing an eight-week old puppy off a cliff. The video can be found here. It's very graphic and, if such things bother you, I encourage you not to click on the link.

Quite honestly, I'm not sure if this video is a hoax or not. I keep getting the impression that the puppy was already dead by that point, and puppies that young can die naturally from a myriad of causes (especially if they have been separated from their mother). I know that a lot of puppies and kittens go limp when you pick them up by the scruff of the neck, but something tells me that it wasn't alive when they were holding it. I would expect a live animal to move its paws or something. And I definitely think it would have flailed right before the soldier chucked it. Not to mention they way it bounced when it hit the ground. I don't think a live animal would have acted that way. The sound of the yelping could have been edited into the video later. So...for those of you who have the stomach to watch this video, what do you think? Is it a hoax or not?

At any rate, the video is in extremely poor taste.
