Except for having a busy day on Saturday, not much has been going on with me. On Saturday evening, I went to a lovely Lammas / New Moon ritual. After that was over, I dropped by a friend's house for the tail end of their Casino Royale party. They only not so good thing that happened to me that evening was that I got bit by mosquitoes at both events. Many many mosquitoes. I must have at the very least ten mosquito bites on me. Not cool, not cool at all.

Oh...I was a bad [livejournal.com profile] nekosensei yesterday and didn't go for my walk. It was too humid outside and I didn't feel up to being both itchy and sweaty. Yeah...I know...no excuse. No cookies for me. :)

That's it with me. Time for some links:

- A Turkish man accused of beating his wife is now claiming that he was dancing the kolbasti and that a passer-by mistook it for domestic violence. I tried to be open-minded, but after looking a few videos of people dancing the kolbasti on YouTube, I decided that I just had to call bullshit on this one. How can you possibly confuse wife beating with this dance? Yeah...I'm just not seeing it. What do you guys think?

It looks like a cool dance, by the way. Anybody want to teach me? :)

- Anybody still arguing that global warming does not exist either has their head in the sand or is just plain blind.

- How to Be Alone -- Go watch it. It's very poignantly stated. (Via [livejournal.com profile] muntahz)

- And last, but not least...Heeere's Kitteh! Muhahahahahah!

Weekend

I keep meaning to write this stuff down, but I oftentimes get distracted and never get around to it. This weekend was jam packed. Here's what [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I did:

Friday:
Had dinner at my in-laws' house.

Saturday:
Went to a birthday party at a friend's house. Watched the Blackhawks game, drank wine, and had Hot Sex. The drink! Not the act! Get your mind out of the gutter! Oh...and I just tried googling it to see if I could get a picture of the bottle. Not a good idea. Let's just say that you can find it at your local liquor store and leave it at that. And for those who are curious, it tastes kind of like a Mudslide, only with more cinnamon. It's yummy if you like sweet drinks.

Sunday:
Went to my in-laws' house to celebrate what would have been [livejournal.com profile] doomsey's grandfather's 100th birthday had he still been alive. This was originally planned for Monday, but got changed at the last minute.

After dinner, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I headed to Scott and Aimee's house. [livejournal.com profile] doomsey fixed their computer-- turns out that it was a program that was slowing the computer down and not a virus like they had feared. We also sat and talked until about midnight. It was fun.

Monday:
In the afternoon, we invited [livejournal.com profile] doomsey's mother over to watch the latest Doctor Who and Doctor Who Confidential. Spoilers below the cut )

Went to Jason and Jori's house for horror movie night. They were showing Dead Snow-- a Nazi Zombie movie, a Zombie Nazi movie, or whatever you want to call it. [livejournal.com profile] doomsey didn't care for it, but then again, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey was never a big fan of horror movies. What I particularly liked about the film was the mixture of horror and comedy. There were also many references to Terminator, Indiana Jones, and Red Dawn. Minor spoilers below the cut )

* It's called a turn signal. Use it. If I clip you because you couldn't be arsed to use your turn signal when you change lanes, I will tear it out and shove it up your ass. Really...what's with people not using turn signals today? I had two people do that to me in a thirty second interval.

* Saw a "New Driver" sign on a Lexus. You're really going to let your kid learn how to drive on your nice Lexus? Well okay then....

* Amazing Video Shows Shockwaves Explode From Volcano -- I know it's Faux News, but the video is kind of cool. Go watch it.

* I am greatly amused that the German word for jewelry is der Schmuck.

* The vet called. This time, Cosette's blood work turned out almost completely normal. Thank God! I asked whether the Pepcid AC could cause a weird heart beat, and it turns out that that's very unlikely. In fact, they're finding that people and animals benefit from Pepcid because it controls acid. Still taking her in to get her heart checked on Monday though.

* You know, I usually don't read much fanfic, let alone recommend it, but you've got to read this Buffy / Farmville crossover. Hilarious! It's also not very long... (Via [livejournal.com profile] sl_podcast)

* Looks like [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I will be going to that party tonight...

Since I can't decide what I'm doing today, I'm going to let my friends list decide for me.

Should I go to a party, get skunked, and maybe play Rock Band (note: me getting skunked may or may not end with me crying in a corner somewhere) or should I have dinner with my sister-in-law?

[Poll #1555262]

* Peter Kaczowka:
“Eat LOTS of chocolate. Per Wikipedia, the world’s longest-lived person, Jeanne Louise Calment, lived on a diet of olive oil, red wine and chocolate, living 122 years and 164 days. There’s no need to eat cocoa powder, Lindt makes a delicious 90% pure chocolate bar. Calment ate nearly 5 oz of chocolate a day, more than an entire Lindt 90% bar which weighs 3.5 oz and has 550 calories. Calment was not eating ‘a little chocolate every day,’ as you advise; chocolate was a substantial part of her diet of unsaturated fats.” -- Yes...I like that little tidbit. I like it a lot. (Via [livejournal.com profile] ozarque)

* You know, I need a chocolate themed LJ icon. How is it that I've had an LJ account for six years now and never had one of those before?

* Funny Doctor Who macro!

* My sister sent me an email asking me if I could baby-sit her daughters for a couple hours later this month. I knew that [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I were going to a house warming / first birthday party that day, but I forgot what time it was and I suspected that the time I had put in my calendar was wrong-- which it was. So...I opened up the email that had the invite, but instead of sending the reply to my sister, I sent it to my friend, G., who had sent me the invite. I told my sister that I could baby-sit in the morning, but that I had to leave by about 11:30 or so because I was going to the party. Worse, I told my sister-- which got sent to G-- that my friends "had bought a house in Wilmette and that they paid a a quarter of a million bucks for it. Wild!" [I actually meant to say three-quarters of a million, but screwed that part up]. The friend sent me a message back saying that I had sent the email to the wrong person, and that they wished it had been only a quarter of a million bucks. Yeah...now I'm embarrassed. [livejournal.com profile] doomsey heard about it from S.-- her husband-- this afternoon; they were both very amused.

Yeah...I don't think I've ever done something like that. Or if I have, I haven't done it in a long time....
nekosensei: (Default)
* On Friday night, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I went to Rock Band Night at a friend's house. And I thought parties at our friend James's house were wild. This was crazy because much drunkenness was involved. (I didn't drink much though because I had a cold and I wasn't feeling up to it). One guy showed up with a flask of whiskey. And this was no ordinary whiskey. No, this brand of whiskey was not outlawed during Prohibition because it was used for medicinal purposes. o_O He then proceeded to drink most of the flask of whiskey, occasionally sharing a shot or two with his friends. O_O How this guy avoided alcohol poisoning, I do not know. At any rate, at one point in the evening, he took off his pants to sing a song on Rock Bank. He had apparently threatened to do this before she showed up for the evening and he was making good on his threat. The good thing: he was wearing a pair of card-themed boxer shorts underneath his pants. The bad: He had a boner. O_O!!!! It was very difficult to ignore this last thing as I was playing the drums next to him. By one o'clock in the morning, the whiskey was gone and he was completely blitzed. Just before [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I left, he whipped out his dick and showed it to whoever was in the room. Well...okay then.

* I've discovered that I can both play the guitar and sing on Rock Band if I a) have both set to easy and b) know the song very well.

* Saturday evening was much more sedate. [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I went out for all you can eat sushi with some friends. Then, we went back to their place where my friend A. showed me her cat and her pet corn snake named Ernie. Did I mention that snakes were awesome? I would be half tempted to get one, but [livejournal.com profile] doomsey doesn't want any more critters.

* Way behind on reading LJ. Between not feeling good, having work, and having a quiz to prepare for in my German class next week, I haven't been online very much. I wish I could shake this damn cold.

* Tengo un gato en mi cabeza. Nobody believes me. (Video swiped from [livejournal.com profile] slime711)

* This guy does a very good analysis of Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds. And now I have a hankering to watch that movie again. His analysis of Bambi is also supposed to be very good, but I'm holding off on reading it because I haven't seen Bambi in many years and I want to watch it again.

* Okay...hitting post now because my web browser is screwing things up...
nekosensei: (Default)
* I haven't even gotten out of my chair yet, and already Cosette is trying to steal my seat...the little shit.

* Did I mention that I really enjoy having artists on my friends list? Sometimes, they post links to more artists. A few days ago, [livejournal.com profile] kiwikat posted a link to Ashely Witter's art. Go look. I think her work is kind of neat.

* Great. I'm an idiot. There were two people I was supposed to buy birthday presents for, not one. Well, I will see the other person in a week or two, so it's no big deal. I can give them their present then. I still feel like a moron though.

* Posting these two links more for myself so that I can go back to them and read them. I really need to get back into writing that book I started in November. Or at least spend more time writing in general. But no, I keep saying I should do it and then put it off...

* There were eleven of us playing Apples to Apples today. [livejournal.com profile] judgys got the red cards bongos and bon-bons for the word, profound. I thought that was amusing for whatever reason.

* So...we're supposed to get about eight inches of snow Sunday night into Monday. What happened to the spring like weather??

Friday evening, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I went with his folks to Amada's Cafe for Mexican/Cuban food. I ordered chicken enchiladas in mole sauce. I also had a mojito. Mmm...mojitos. By the way, I really hope that my blood tests in March come back negative for genetic clotting disorders. I'm going to be very unhappy if I have to go back on the rat poison Coumadin again.

Saturday, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I went to not one, not two, but three parties. Party Número Uno was at my sister's house where we were celebrating my niece's second birthday. As I commented in Twitter, I had also made Peach Kuchen, which my dad said tasted like the stuff his grandmother used to make. Hey! Looks like I did it right after all!

Party Número Dos was at my best friend's house. We caught the tail-end of her birthday party, arriving just in time for cake and ice cream. [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I hadn't seen her new condo since she moved so she gave us the tour. L. also told me that she was learning how to knit, and we talked about what stitches she already knew how to do. Later, on the phone, we discussed setting up a Stitch and Bitch (or a knitting group) for those people who are interested in knitting and crochet. I think this would be very cool because I know a bunch of people now who are knitters and crocheters. L. also offered to give me singing lessons in exchange for teaching her how to knit better. I could really use this because my voice just hasn't been the same since the embolism.

Party Número Tres was the No Bush party at [livejournal.com profile] voidness' house. This was the first time since I've been off the rat poison that I've managed to get myself good and plastered. I think the rum shot at the end was a mistake though. I seem to remember two people saying that it might make me sick. Well, I wasn't worshiping the porcelain goddess, but I was feeling very headache-y and stomach ache-y after that. A little after one o'clock, I went home and slept it off. I had one hell of a headache the next morning though.

Oh...I also brought left-over Peach Kuchen and chocolate Amish friendship bread. Both were polished off before the night ended. Hee!

Sunday was boring as I spent that doing laundry and other work.

Let's see. What else? On Sunday night I joined a bunch of new LJ communities. One of them was [livejournal.com profile] rahmbamarama because the name amused me and because they seem to get metaquoted a lot. I decided to pop on over there and see exactly what kind of shenanigans they were up to. (Also, the chibis on the user info page were kind of cute). I also joined two writing communities-- [livejournal.com profile] staringout and [livejournal.com profile] the_dead_muse-- because I wanted to slowly get back into writing again and because I was feeling very out of practice. I even wrote a little story. By the way, this challenge was entertaining. Seriously, go do it.

And hey, look! New eggs!

[livejournal.com profile] doomsey got a knife sharpener today as a Hanukkah gift. He must like it because he is in his office sharpening knives as we speak. Hmmm...come to think of it...I have been kind of obnoxious lately. I hope he's not planning to do me in in my sleep. *thinks of the shower scene in Psycho* :)

I got two books from [livejournal.com profile] emygination for Hanukkah this year: Roald Dahl's Book of Ghost Stories and Neil Gaiman's Coraline. Yep, I definitely like all things macabre. I must be easy to please because books, movies, and knitting gear are definitely my favorite presents.

Let's see. What else did I do today? This morning, I got a call from [livejournal.com profile] judgys saying that [livejournal.com profile] almeda and husband were in the hospital because of food poisoning. Their dogs had not been let out since last night, and they needed someone to check on them. [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I jumped in the shower and ran to the hospital downtown to pick up a key from them. Then, we headed to their house and let the dogs out. They were obviously tying it in a knot when we got there, but surprisingly, they hadn't made a mess in their cage. Obviously, they made a beeline for the back door. Afterwards, we gave them food and then made sure their water bottle was refilled.

Afterwards, we had the Hanukkah party at [livejournal.com profile] judygs' house. They had lots of roast beast and potato latkes. Mmmm...I just *love* potato latkes. You know, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I really need to make those sometime. They are awesome.

That's it for me. I am so tired, it's not funny. Off to bed with me!

Aside from yesterday's freak out, the past two weekends have been fun.

Let's see. Last Saturday, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey, his family, and I went to see Ain't Misbehaving-- a musical revue of Thomas Wright "Fats" Waller's music-- at the Goodman Theater. It was an amazing show.

Sunday was my niece's birthday party. [livejournal.com profile] emygination, the kids, and I ended up swimming in the pool even though it was a tad bit cool outside. That's the day I also discovered the usefulness of Nerf guns.

On Thursday, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I took the train into the city. We hung around the Art Institute during the afternoon and in the evening, we met up with various friends at our usual meeting place in Grant Park to see the fireworks. After the fireworks, we walked to Greek Islands for dinner, where I got burned by a hot plate of saganaki and threw my fork. By the time [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I got home at one-thirty to two o'clock in the morning, I was wiped. We had probably walked six or seven miles that day.

Friday was the Fourth of July party at [livejournal.com profile] voidness' house. During the day, C. and I went to see if it was too late for me to do Lombard Idol at the Taste of Lombard fest. It turns out that you had to audition back in June. I promised C. that I would definitely look into doing it next year. That evening, we saw more fireworks, followed by another private fireworks display *cough cough* in a friend's backyard. By the way, there's a firework out there called "The Big Mother" which I hear was only purchased for twenty dollars. It turned out to be quite impressive. I got to cross the state line and get my hot little hands on it next year.

Saturday, [livejournal.com profile] judygs, [livejournal.com profile] bmtstandard, and [livejournal.com profile] emygination went to Ren Faire. I would have liked to have gone, but I was too beat from events on Thursday and Friday. I also had work that I needed to get done.

Yesterday, I met up with my parents, my sister, and my niece, E. I'm surprised by how big E. is getting. She's walking much more confidently now and she's saying a lot of words. She's very vocal for her age and she loves books. I have a feeling that she's going to be one smart cookie when she gets older.

On Sunday, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I went with his folks to my niece's birthday party. Before we went home, the kids brought out two Nerf guns and we were messing around with them. Seriously, we need to get one or two of these and bring them to parties. They're fun.

Anyhow, back to my point. I was holding the Nerf gun and my in-laws asked me a question about *cough cough* some decisions that certain individuals have made. And believe me. I've argued and pleaded with said individuals I don't know how many times and they just won't see the light of day. And what was my response to their question? I didn't say anything. I just cocked the Nerf gun and shot myself in the head with it. [livejournal.com profile] doomsey seemed to think it was an appropriate response. It summed the matter up up rather succinctly.

Really, convincing them otherwise is futile. I've long since given up.

Friday: After participating in Blog Like It's the End of the World Day, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I went to a party at [livejournal.com profile] voidness' house. There were a lot of zombie references. [livejournal.com profile] samcallahan heard [livejournal.com profile] doomsey talking loudly in the bushes and came inside to say, "there's a drunk guy in the bushes. I think you should hit him with a shovel." Something makes me think that either I'm going to get either The Zombie Survival Guide or a shovel for my birthday this year. Oh...there were also s'mores involved. By the way, the only way I've eaten s'mores is when they're nuked in the microwave. I've never roasted the marshmallow over an open flame before. Yes...it's sacrilege, I know. In my defense, I was a kid at the time and I didn't know any better. That and my parents never lit any bonfires. They were really paranoid about burning the house/backyard down or triggering my asthma.

Saturday: [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I met up with his folks and we all drove out to a wedding in Indiana. The ceremony was at a place in Dyer, Indiana called Meyer's Castle. The grounds were absolutely gorgeous. They also had ponds with albino peacocks and black swans. [livejournal.com profile] doomsey got a couple of pictures and I should really post them when he puts them online. The couple had a mixed Jewish-Catholic ceremony, and they so happened to pick out the rabbi that [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I were going to use at our ceremony. (Actually, long story short, the rabbi had to bail at the last minute for our wedding because his mother was having surgery in Russia. He got a friend from seminary to replace him. He flew all the way from Kansas City to officiate for our wedding. Then, he flew back again). Their rabbi did an excellent job. Too bad it turned out that he couldn't be at our wedding.

After the ceremony, the guests met up at the hotel while the wedding party took pictures. Since Saturday was knit in public day, [livejournal.com profile] emygination and I did a lot of knitting. By the way, I finally finished my "practice sock." I should really take a picture of it and post it. It's wide and it looks it would fit Bigfoot if he had half his feet chopped off. On the other hand, it would make a great sock-puppet.

Sunday: We went to the Allstate Arena for [livejournal.com profile] emygination's graduation. She graduated suma cum laude from DePaul. Getting inside the stadium was a zoo though because the last graduation ran over. Also, when I went to the bathroom, I ended up getting baptized with toilet water. The lady flushed the toilet next to me and it overflowed. It nailed the bottoms of my pants a good one. I had to sit through the whole graduation like that. ¡Qué asco! Fortunately, I got a chance to stop at home and change before dinner.

By the way, this lady was the key-note speaker at [livejournal.com profile] emygination's graduation. I think that was the best graduation speech I have heard...ever.

On Sunday, I also started coming down with a cold. [livejournal.com profile] doomsey has it too. During dinner, I felt like a complete and utter zombie. Now, I don't feel so much like a zombie, but it sure hurts to talk.
nekosensei: (Default)
I happened upon two garage sales during my walk today, and I found Chess: The Drinking Game at one of them. I was highly amused by this so I went back and liberated it. Me thinks it will be making an appearance at one of [livejournal.com profile] voidness' parties sometime in the near future. *evil grin*

I can't drink this year because of the meds I'm on, but I'm sure you guys can raise a couple of glasses a glass for me.
nekosensei: (Default)
Saturday afternoon, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I went to the art fair that was in town and then visited [livejournal.com profile] forestdruid and his mother, who were firing raku-ceramics. We decided to plunk down money for a vase, which we glazed ourselves and then handed to [livejournal.com profile] forestdruid to fire. It came out quite nicely, and one of these days I'll have to post pictures of it.

On Saturday evening, we were supposed to go to Karyn's Cooked, but it turns out parties of six people need reservations on the weekend. The person who made the plans didn't think we needed a reservation, so guess where we didn't end up eating? I was a bit disappointed because I was off my Warfarin this weekend, and could have had vegetarian food. Instead, we went to Greek Isles, and fortunately I was able to get a cabbage salad there. It was very tasty. Mmm....saaaaaalad. Afterwards, we went to The Ballad of Emmett Till at the Goodman Theatre.

On Sunday, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I went out with [livejournal.com profile] linmayu, [livejournal.com profile] 2515049, and others to a park in Downers Grove where we had a lovely picnic. Later, we harassed the geese by the pond and-- this "plan" started out as a comment that I jokingly made on her journal several weeks ago-- several of us "raided the playground." Well, the only part we really took over were the swings. You know...they really don't make playground equipment like they used to. I remember the swings being much bigger and...oh...more dangerous. These ones were wimpy. Seriously. I think parents who worry that "Oh my God! My kids are going to get hurt on playground equipment!" are taking things a bit too far. Isn't falling down and banging yourself up supposed to be a right of passage or something? When we got bored, we took a walk around the park and went back to [livejournal.com profile] linmayu and [livejournal.com profile] 2515049 where people played board games or played with Guitar Hero and/or Karaoke Revolution on the X-box.

All in all, it was a fun weekend.

Saturday, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey, his family, J. and K. all went to a play at the Goodman called "The Trip to Bountiful." Afterwards, we went to Rosebud on Taylor street for dinner. They served us way too much food. I don't think I managed to eat a quarter of what they put in front of me.

Today, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey, his family, and I went to Joshua's birthday party at [livejournal.com profile] jharter41's house. There were a lot of kids there. It was loud, but also a lot of fun. I managed to teach Rayna how to do the salsa and an Irish jig. I couldn't jig for very long though because my lungs still suck.

I'm exhausted. I haven't been sleeping well for the past two nights, and to top it all off, the time change is kicking my ass. Also, having to suck on my peace pipe use my inhaler today didn't help things either. It makes me really jittery at first, and sometimes it makes me crash afterwards.

I think tonight is going to be an early one. I'm going to take some Ambien and go to bed.

This weekend, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I went out to dinner at Amada's with his parents. This time, I got chilaquiles. Mmm...chilaquiles. Since I couldn't have the mojitos there anymore because of the medication I'm on, I contented myself with horchata, which is also very yummy.

Yesterday evening, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I went to [livejournal.com profile] voidness' house for his Anti-Valentine's Day party. I guess it's a good thing I can't drink anymore because I heard that a couple of my friends got pretty smashed. At the party, [livejournal.com profile] 1koolspud gave me a bottle of non-alcoholic mojito juice. I tried it today and it was very yummy.

Today, I went with [livejournal.com profile] doomsey, [livejournal.com profile] angharad76, [livejournal.com profile] fuzzyscribble, and [livejournal.com profile] samcallahan to see Into the Wild at the University of Chicago. It was a well done movie, but it was very sad. Afterwards, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey, [livejournal.com profile] angharad76, and I had dinner at Cracker Barrel. It was a very pleasant day.

[Edit: It looks like said people didn't get smashed. The new theory is that they got food poisoning or came down with a nasty stomach virus].
