Blech (otherwise known as tales of a crazy cat lady)

Now they're finding that the chemical that contaminated cat foods made with wheat gluten might have also found its way into those made with corn and rice gluten. My cat's food is made with corn gluten. I know that the bag I've currently been feeding them is okay since [livejournal.com profile] arwenmonster has had her blood tested at the vet for an unrelated problem. All of her numbers came back good. On the other hand, any day now, that bag will be used up and I'll have to start them on another bag. I've compared the two to see if there are any differences. The one smells slightly different from the other one. [Edit: I have no idea whether it's because the older bag was mostly used up or if the new one, which I opened today, is fresher or what.]

Oh...and by the way, cat food tastes really bad...period. FYI.

[Edit: Seriously, I don't see how [livejournal.com profile] cosettemonster snarfs it down like there's no tomorrow. If I were a cat, I would start a revolt!]

[Another edit: Speaking of revolts...*snickers*]

According to the news, the only other ingredient that's suspect is rice protein concentrate, not corn gluten.

I hope they get their corn gluten from the US. I really do.

Did you also see that it had made its way into hog feed? Nice.

I have to admit, I've been feeding Riley lots of people food lately. He prefers it, and for once, I don't feel terribly guilty about it ;)

Yeah...I'm starting to think making my own food for the cats until the pet food companies and the FDA get their heads out of their collective asses and figure out what's going on this whole thing blows over. First it was the wheat gluten...now they're saying that the rice gluten is affected as well and there are some suspicions about the corn gluten. I hear there are some good receipes online...
