Scottish Food and Scotch (otherwise known as "Mmm...Scotch...")

This evening, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I went to a Scottish pub with friends, and I was introduced to Scottish food and a new drink, Scotch. Mmm...Scotch. And of course, much hilarity ensued after that, which included learning how to flip someone off to the tune of pop goes the weasel. I guess you just had to be there...

Then, we went to Margie's for dessert. Unfortunately, I couldn't partake in the consumption of ice cream. After dessert, I wanted to go to some friends' house to drink more Scotch, but [livejournal.com profile] doomsey has to go to work in the morning and it was past his bedtime.

How do you stop an exploding [livejournal.com profile] nekosensei?
Don't feed her anything with dairy.

Speaking of feeding you non-dairy things, I found a recipe for chocolate flan made with soy milk.

If you want to come over for dinner tomorrow, I can make it (I was planning on making a mushroom/veggie stir fry, too).

Hmm...that sounds yummy.

The other good quote was from [livejournal.com profile] doomsey:
"Knowing nothing else about the subject, I think I would rather sleep with Lish than with Mike Khalili."

Heh heh. That was classic!

Rice Dream frozen stuff rocks. Rice milk.

Scotch can mean anything from stuff that tastes like diesel fuel...to stuff that costs $600 a bottle. What did you have?

[identity profile] nekosensei.livejournal.com 2007-05-18 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
MacCallan 12 I think. It was a single malt and brewed in casks that were originally used for sherry...I think. I didn't think I would be able to tolerate anything too bitter...

[identity profile] fuzzyscribble.livejournal.com 2007-05-18 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmm...I have a bottle of MacCallan 18 year. If you think the 12 year is good...got it for Christmas.

Don't take your opinion of scotch from MacCallan. It's probably the best producer in the world...so if you're disappointed by lesser offerings. Ah well.

There are a lot of blended scotches that are really smooth like that...and cheaper.

Yeah, the 18yo Macallan is significantly more expensive than 12yo -- unless you go to Gaylords in Schaumburg, where it's only about a $2 difference.

But, yes, it was suggested as being fairly accessible. If you liked it, by all means, try some others as convenient. Do your best to remember what you liked, and why.

I've never had MacCallan. I prefer Glenmorangie... I have a bottle of Glenmorangie 12 that was aged in casks originally used to store burgundy wine. Good stuff.

A long ago ex of mine was a scotch fanatic. He tried to convince everyone around him that scotch was the ultimate alcohol. :)

[identity profile] nekosensei.livejournal.com 2007-05-19 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Well...I'm not sure about that. It's good, but quite honestly I prefer a good sangria or...even better...a mohito. Mmm...mohitos!

When I first started drinking, all I drank was scotch, the older the better. My brain being what it is now and the number of years ago that was, I don't remember what kind I liked the best.

Then there was that day with that half bottle of mixed whiskey.

After that I started drinking mostly Manhattans. A bit less raw. Not much less alcoholic.

Now I mostly drink water. :)

Oh? Did we get more than a little drunk?
