This one is for all the Firefly and Serenity fans out there. For some reason, I think the Loreena McKennit song is appropriate for River.

This is also another good video.

On Wednesday, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I took both cats to the vet. [livejournal.com profile] arwenmonster has been more bitchy than normal. She has been growling and hissing at both [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I whenever we try to pick her up. She is better about letting us pet her though. We also brought in [livejournal.com profile] cosettemonster since was due in for her shots anyway.

At any rate, the vet concluded that she was probably being more aggressive since her chronic sinus issues have been flaring up. This time, she gave us a human antibiotic called azithromycin, which we had to get filled at a drug store in Roselle since it's a human medication. Said drug store does a lot of business with veterinarians since they have equipment in back that can prepare smaller doses of medicines. When I was picking up [livejournal.com profile] arwenmonster's prescription, I was in line behind a lady who was getting thyroid medication for her cat. At any rate, the vet decided to go this route since she was able to successfully treat another cat with a similar problem using this drug. [livejournal.com profile] arwenmonster does sound more stuffed up than usual, so I hope this makes her feel better soon. [livejournal.com profile] doomsey was petting her this morning and noticed that she is more likely to swat at people if you touch her back so we're also wondering if it's back issues that is setting her off. I guess that, if the medications don't make a difference, we'll take her to the vet again and have her check out her back. It's frustrating dealing with sick cats because a) they often try to hide it from you when they're not feeling well and b) they can't tell you what's the matter.

The vet also decided to draw blood to see if that showed anything. So...they took [livejournal.com profile] arwenmonster in back...and after listening to much yowling, screaming, and hissing, they returned with a very pissed off and worn-out cat. Did I mention that [livejournal.com profile] arwenmonster never cooperates at the vet's office? There's a reason why they haven't done any blood work on her since 2002! Because [livejournal.com profile] arwenmonster was fighting them so much, they were only able to draw one of the vials of blood that they needed, but that was enough. They were able to test it to see if she had any problems with her thyroid, kidneys, etc. The other vial would have been used to check white blood cell counts I think. Yesterday, I got a call from the vet, and she said that her numbers were fine. She did have slightly high cholesterol, but it wasn't high enough to justify doing anything about it. And quite personally, I don't want to play around with food right now seeing as half of it is being recalled nowadays.

[livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I are also talking about taking [livejournal.com profile] arwenmonster to see this particular vet from now on. After watching her deal with both cats, I noticed that she does tend to work better with cats (the one we usually make an appointment with is more of a dog person). She seems to do a better job handling [livejournal.com profile] arwenmonster, who is quite the handful. The vet tech was really on the ball. We noticed that, this time, they put a towel over her during the exam, and that helped settle her down. The other vet we take her to, although she is very good, tends to struggle with her more.
