I tossed my cookies...
Dec. 24th, 2008 12:12 amYesterday, I did a ton of baking. First I made fudge, and afterwards, I made eggnog cookies. I had just finished the cookies and was moving them-- one-handed because I was on the phone-- to another counter where they would be out of the way when I accidentally dropped the tin. The lid popped off and all of my cookies ended up on the floor. Yep, I tossed my cookies. It was kind of fortuitous that this happened because I wasn't very happy with that batch. I discovered while I was baking up the first two trays that the mix needed more flour (the variation I found online wasn't working out so well) so I added more in to the remaining batter. Then, I got distracted and overcooked the next two trays. Doh! I was planning on doing another, and hopefully better, batch later that evening anyway. Anyhow, for some reason, I was highly amused by all of this and started laughing.
doomsey, on the other hand, had had a bad day at work and wasn't amused. I think he may also have been confused as to why I found this all so funny. I had put a lot of work into that batch.
Anyhow, I threw away the tossed cookies, grabbed my ipod, and whipped up another batch. They turned out much better than the first one. The only real problem I had with them was that they weren't as moist or eggnoggy as the Christmas cookies I used to eat as a kid. It turns out that my mom used to make her cookies from powdered eggnog. She would add more powder to the mix in order to make the flavor stronger. She recently told me that she could never get the recipe to work out so well anymore because she could only find liquid eggnog at the store. I did some poking around online and found a company that sells powdered eggnog. I forwarded their URL to my mom. I'm also tempted to place an order myself. Hmm...
Oh...and today I did more baking. I made a chocolate quick bread and pumpkin bread. I don't know how the pumpkin bread is going to taste, but it sure as hell smells good.
