They're forecasting six inches of snow by tomorrow morning? Shit shit shit. doomsey is in Germany and I don't know how to use the goddamn snow blower. I'm FUCKED!

And no...I'm not shoveling it. I'll kill my neck and back.

Turn on snowblower.

Start on the side of the sidewalk opposide of the direction your snowblower outputs.

Push blower through snow.

Back up...move over towards the direction of output...and continue to blow until the area you need cleared is free of snow. Salt newly cleared area.

In fact...if you go home and salt now...there's a good chance nothing will stick.

If you can use your lawnmower...you can use a snowblower. If you can't use either...you're going to lose your membership in the Illinois Riot Grrl Feminist Club. ;-)

Well....I can mow, but I can't blow. That came out badly, didn't it? Hmm...maybe I'll have to flag my own post. Anyhow...I'm going to try to do it myself, but if I don't succeed I'm getting help. doomsey said it's hard to start, especially at the beginning of season when it hasn't been started in months...

If doomsey is anything like my husband...he "hides" the manual. There should be a choke, labeled with a little picture of a propeller type looking thing. That should be open when you start it. (Check to see if you've got enough gas in it first). THEN...there may be some kind of safety, or not, like a handle you have to squeeze in order to start it. Try keeping your hand on the brake when you start it, this may or may not be necessary. THEN...turn the key. Let it warm up for a few minutes, when the idle changes, close the choke bit by bit, and then ZOOM! Okay, there should be speeds, or forward, reverse, etc. There should also be a switch or something to engage the snow flippers, or whatever it's called. You're off! Follow the instructions above for the effective removal of snow, I've never used one before, but I've used weed whackers, push mowers, quads with blades for pushing snow (lots of fun!) garden tractors, motor cycles, and the idea is basically the same. Do not attempt this before you have to be somewhere! Give yourself a couple of hours to fart around with it! Let me know how it goes, this sounds like a good post in the making!

You're lucky. You have a blower. I have a Methuss and during that snow dumping, he only had time to shovel his side of the driveway and unbury his car before he had to leave for work. I had to wait til mid-day to do mine while Pepper was napping. My only saving grace was that half of the snow was melted by the time I got out there and cleared off my side of the driveway and my car.

No...this is not a good post in the making. Somehow, I managed to fuck up my back when I was blowing / shoveling snow. The weird thing was that it didn't start hurting until later, but by the time evening came round, I was practically in tears. Not good! This morning, I felt better, but only after taking 4 ibruprofen...at one time! I still amazed that I didn't end up missing work...but I'm on a lot of drugs...oh yes I am...

And this week keeps adding more insult to injury. More snow is falling as we speak. Seriously...I think I'm just going to fucking leave it there...
