[livejournal.com profile] doomsey got a knife sharpener today as a Hanukkah gift. He must like it because he is in his office sharpening knives as we speak. Hmmm...come to think of it...I have been kind of obnoxious lately. I hope he's not planning to do me in in my sleep. *thinks of the shower scene in Psycho* :)

I got two books from [livejournal.com profile] emygination for Hanukkah this year: Roald Dahl's Book of Ghost Stories and Neil Gaiman's Coraline. Yep, I definitely like all things macabre. I must be easy to please because books, movies, and knitting gear are definitely my favorite presents.

Let's see. What else did I do today? This morning, I got a call from [livejournal.com profile] judgys saying that [livejournal.com profile] almeda and husband were in the hospital because of food poisoning. Their dogs had not been let out since last night, and they needed someone to check on them. [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I jumped in the shower and ran to the hospital downtown to pick up a key from them. Then, we headed to their house and let the dogs out. They were obviously tying it in a knot when we got there, but surprisingly, they hadn't made a mess in their cage. Obviously, they made a beeline for the back door. Afterwards, we gave them food and then made sure their water bottle was refilled.

Afterwards, we had the Hanukkah party at [livejournal.com profile] judygs' house. They had lots of roast beast and potato latkes. Mmmm...I just *love* potato latkes. You know, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I really need to make those sometime. They are awesome.

That's it for me. I am so tired, it's not funny. Off to bed with me!

Yum, latkes. They're not too hard to make, I think.

You've got to keep those knives sharp. :)

I have to tell you, I laughed out loud when I read this because it reminded me of a conversation I had with my parents a couple of years ago. I was living in AZ and the east coast had had a really ugly winter and my parents were apparently snowed in, yet again.

I called home to check how they were doing, and my mother proceeded to tell me that if they weren't able to get out of the house soon, she was going to stab something. My immediately response was "Uh huh. Um... can I talk to Dad please?"

When she put him on, I said "Dad, stay downstairs! (because of her hip and knee replacements, she has trouble with stairs and will avoid them.) I'm not entirely sure she's not going to kill you when you're not looking."

My dad's response? "Oh, this isn't news. You'd be amazed at how many things I've built in my workshop this winter just staying out of her way."

We used the America's Family Kitchen Cookbook recipe for the latkes this year, substituting gluten-free bread crumbs for the Matzoh meal. I think they were the best we've ever made.
