Yeah...I meant to answer this question last night, but I never got around to it. Almost two years ago, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I were looking for a house. We went to a few open houses one weekend in summer. We saw a house or two that had potential, but nothing really jumped out at us. We called a realtor, one of [livejournal.com profile] doomsey's former neighbors, and she offered to take us to a couple of houses. In the mean time, [livejournal.com profile] judygs picked up a newspaper and found an ad for a three bedroom Cape Cod on the other side of town. It sounded almost exactly like the house that [livejournal.com profile] doomsey used to live in when he was growing up. We called the realtor back and she told us that it was "a cute house" and she made an appointment for us to see it. [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I were impressed. It was exactly like [livejournal.com profile] doomsey's old house, and he wanted to put an offer on it right away. I loved the house, but I was hesitant about making such a big decision so quickly. I told [livejournal.com profile] doomsey that I would like to sleep on it overnight and make my final decision in the morning. He asked me what were the chances of me changing my mind over night. I decided that he was right. The house was gorgeous (yet affordable) and I wasn't going to change my mind. So..we went to the realtor's office and put an offer on the house. After some negotiation, the owners accepted the offer. It turns out that we were really lucky in our timing. The evening after the owners accepted our offer, someone else tried to place a bid on the house. If I had waited until the next morning to place the bid on the house, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I would have gotten into a bidding war, and chances are pretty good that we wouldn't have gotten the house.

The point in me saying all of this is that [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I really lucked out in getting this house in such a nice neighborhood. The neighbors are very friendly and they seem to be a tight knit group. They've offered to cat sit for us or lend us stuff (like strong bug spray when we had the problem with carpenter ants). They also shared generator power with us when a nasty storm blew through and knocked out our power for a couple of days. We've also been invited to parties and Super Bowl games. They really do seem to be a great bunch of people. So...all in all...I'm very pleased with both the house and the neighborhood.

[Edit: Wow? I just read through other people's answers to this question. Am I the only person who likes their neighbors?]

Nope. Never done it. I'm not sure if I ever will do it either. I might consider it if it's very secluded and I'm with my husband or other friends that I trust, but most likely not.

Friday, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I got Mexican food for dinner and then we went to [livejournal.com profile] voidness' place where we watched Indiana Jones and the Lost Ark and Time Bandits. I hadn't seen the first one in ages and I had never seen the second one. I enjoyed both.

On Saturday, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I celebrated Passover with his folks.

Today, I did work outside. I removed the tarp from the old vegetable garden, cleared the area underneath it of weeds, and loosened up the soil there. Tomorrow, I want to put some fertilizer down and, in early May, I hope to plant a vegetable garden. So far, I have summer squash, watermelon, cucumber, sweet corn, and winter squash. I also want to put tomato plants and eggplant out there. I also ordered two hanging baskets with strawberry plants in them. Tomorrow, in addition to buying fertilizer, I want to buy some chicken wire to keep the squirrels and rabbits out. I was also thinking about buying a little plastic owl with a motion detector in it to scare critters away. Does anybody else have any other ideas as to protecting the plants from critters? I heard that predator urine also scares them away, but from what I heard, it has to be male or something, and, well, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey doesn't want to participate in that. I also heard that scoopings from the cat box may work too...

This is the first time I'm planting a vegetable garden. This is going to be a learning experience for me. I have a feeling that, if I fail spectacularly, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey will continue telling me I have a brown thumb and he will make fun of me in general.

This evening, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I went out to get all you can eat sushi and then we took a three mile walk. Then, we watched an episode of Doctor Who.

By the way... [livejournal.com profile] nekosensei <-- very tired...
