Yeah...I meant to answer this question last night, but I never got around to it. Almost two years ago, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I were looking for a house. We went to a few open houses one weekend in summer. We saw a house or two that had potential, but nothing really jumped out at us. We called a realtor, one of [livejournal.com profile] doomsey's former neighbors, and she offered to take us to a couple of houses. In the mean time, [livejournal.com profile] judygs picked up a newspaper and found an ad for a three bedroom Cape Cod on the other side of town. It sounded almost exactly like the house that [livejournal.com profile] doomsey used to live in when he was growing up. We called the realtor back and she told us that it was "a cute house" and she made an appointment for us to see it. [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I were impressed. It was exactly like [livejournal.com profile] doomsey's old house, and he wanted to put an offer on it right away. I loved the house, but I was hesitant about making such a big decision so quickly. I told [livejournal.com profile] doomsey that I would like to sleep on it overnight and make my final decision in the morning. He asked me what were the chances of me changing my mind over night. I decided that he was right. The house was gorgeous (yet affordable) and I wasn't going to change my mind. So..we went to the realtor's office and put an offer on the house. After some negotiation, the owners accepted the offer. It turns out that we were really lucky in our timing. The evening after the owners accepted our offer, someone else tried to place a bid on the house. If I had waited until the next morning to place the bid on the house, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I would have gotten into a bidding war, and chances are pretty good that we wouldn't have gotten the house.

The point in me saying all of this is that [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I really lucked out in getting this house in such a nice neighborhood. The neighbors are very friendly and they seem to be a tight knit group. They've offered to cat sit for us or lend us stuff (like strong bug spray when we had the problem with carpenter ants). They also shared generator power with us when a nasty storm blew through and knocked out our power for a couple of days. We've also been invited to parties and Super Bowl games. They really do seem to be a great bunch of people. So...all in all...I'm very pleased with both the house and the neighborhood.

[Edit: Wow? I just read through other people's answers to this question. Am I the only person who likes their neighbors?]

It's probably negativity dominance - when you ask people about their neighbors they remember the ones they don't like before they remember the ones they do. We get along pretty well with our neighbors, to the extent of mutual babysitting and the like.
