Dear cosettemonster,

I know you really like to chase bugs, and that's nice. I really do appreciate it when you reduce the bug population in our house. However, today you were being particularly annoying. You kept pouncing on the screen door this evening in a futile attempt to chase the moths that were outside. Obviously could not get at them through the closed screen door. While you were doing this, I was catching and killing quite a few carpenter ants that had managed to make their way into our bathroom. This should be your job since I'm not a cat and I don't like playing with or eating bugs. Can you please focus more on chasing the bugs you can catch rather than the ones that are outside and you can't? Thank you.

If you have carpenter ants, you should probably get an exterminator. They are not to be played with.

I think there's a nest of them outside or something. I've seen a lot crawling around on our patio lately. Last night while it was still light, I decided to spray around the foundation. I noticed that, when I sprayed the area by the bathroom, a ton of carpenter ants came scurrying out of the crack close to the foundation. They might have a nest in there and I don't know whether to keep spraying it or to call an exterminator. It was funny. After I sprayed I saw no new ants in the bathroom. Maybe I just have to keep spraying back there?

I also noticed that they always seem to come in at night and whenever it rains. Weird.

Also, about a month or so ago, part of a tree in back of us and kitty corner to our property fell down. It was infested with carpenter ants and they have since been working on taking it down. I'm wondering if that's part of the reason why we have so many carpenter ants out and about.
