Is it me or are high school and college age kids having a harder and harder time filling up their cars with gasoline because of the rise in prices? About a month ago, I had a guy (probably in his 20s) ask me at the gas station if I could give him five dollars so he could fill up his tank. He said that he didn't have enough money. Yesterday when I was out shopping, I had a girl come up to me and say that she had run out of gas in the parking lot, and needed three dollars. I must be mean because I didn't give money to either one of them. Has anybody else out there had random people come up to them and beg them for gas money?

I can't comment on whether or not the individuals you ran into were actually in need of gas money, but this really has been a standard scam for a long time now. Every couple of months some wanker will walk up to me and claim that he just needs a few bucks to put some gas in his car - and his car is just down the road a bit, over there. Or maybe his car broke down and he needs a few bucks for a taxi, but his car is nowhere in sight.

I got particularly annoyed at these jerks when they would hover around the back entrance to my college dorm a few years back. Always a steady stream of college students who don't know any better for them to pick on.
