Yesterday afternoon was, well, interesting. I managed to stuff both furballs downstairs. One of them I had to chase and aggravated my knee in the process. *glowers at the furball* There is going to be a cat macro coming from this, I assure you.

Soon after I posted about the tornado warning, the power went out and the wind picked up. I ended up sitting on the couch in the basement holding the "good cat" and thinking, "Please don't let 'da tree fall on 'da house. Please don't let 'da tree fall on 'da house." We have a huge maple tree in front of our house that saves us money on our air conditioning because it shades the house so well. Our only major concern is that it will fall during a storm and land on our house, which would cause a lot of damage. Fortunately, the tree did not fall on the house.

We still don't have any power. I talked to the neighbors and they said that, the last time they lost power in a storm this bad, it took them three days for it to go on again. Right now, I am at my in-law's house working on laundry that I had started before the storm hit. Fortunately, the washer stopped right in the middle of two cycles, so I didn't have to fish wet clothes out of the washer. That was incredibly lucky.

Our neighbors had a generator we would have been able to use to keep our refrigerator or freezer working, but another asshat neighbor borrowed it without the owner's permission. He then proceeded to put gas for a snowblower in it, which completely gunked up the motor. They tried all of last night to clean it out and get it working again, but they couldn't get it running. I sat and held a flashlight, but I wasn't of much help since I know shit about how motors work. Now...because a certain individual couldn't wait a few hours before our neighbor got home, we're all SOL. Moron.

We also didn't get any property damage. There's no wind damage and no flooding. We did have a number of sizeable tree limbs come down. I think areas around a half a mile to a mile south of us got the worst of it though. Especially the area around our town's hospital. As I was driving to my in-law's house, I saw a couple of trees that had fallen onto houses. In fact, on just one street, I saw two houses with trees on them. I feel so bad for their owners.

Anyhow, off to catch up with the rest of the friends list. After this afternoon, my internet connection is going to be sporadic for the next day or two.

[Edit: Another unrelated problem is that my email is not working. [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and friends have been having some problems with the machine our email is on. The last I heard, a part had broken and needed to be replaced.]

Wow, it's a real-life Homer Simpson!

And the real kicker is that, once he messed up our neighbor's, he went and borrowed another generator for someone else. So...when everbody was trying to get the old one started, you could hear his running on the other side of the fence. Yeah...that guy had class...with a capital K.
