You know, my husband and I never did get to stay in that cute carriage house in Galena, the one we had booked for our honeymoon. I kept thinking that one of these days, we would re-book with the place and have a nice little weekend together, but so far we haven't. Alas, it was never meant to be.

Well, just this week, I found a possible alternative. It's another old house, but it has an interesting history and a lot of character. A lot of character indeed.



It was the scene of a brutal axe murder in 1912 in which two adults and six children were killed by an assailant (or assailants) who was never brought to justice. Yes...it has lots of character all right. It's said that very strange things go on in that house after one o'clock in the morning or so. You think doomsey would be more interested in it because it's not "a tourist trap" or "a romantic get away," but no, he's having none of it.

Okay...I know...not funny, but damn...stuff like this interests me. It looks like it's a seven hour drive though...

Okay, other than the 7 hour drive, this would be so cool!

I've been a guest in haunted houses before; heck, my mom came back to say 'goodbye' to Shay in the house I live in now (was hers when she died). I would love to stay someplace like this, just because.

I'm even thinking of going to see '1408' at the cheap seats today. :-)

It's closer to eight hours-- a little bit more than an hour west of where I grew up, and I'm driving a little too hard if I want to get there in seven.

I don't remember any details, but it seems like I remember hearing about the Villisca axe murders.

And if I ever put it together, this seems like another great thing to add to a "Hentai across Iowa" trip.

That's cool. You definitely have to do the overnight stay. I here it's $275.00 for a group of 5. You can have more, but you have to pay $55.00 for each person I think.
