I took [livejournal.com profile] cosettemonster to the vet today. She looked at her knee and noticed that it was swollen and sore. She took X-rays of it and they were inconclusive. She thinks, at the worst, she's got a chipped bone and / or a torn ligament. At best, she got bit pretty bad in the leg. She noticed that [livejournal.com profile] cosettemonster did have the start of an abscess there. She gave me some antibiotics and some pain meds for her. I have to bring her back in a week so they can do another X-ray on her. If she's doing better, then it's probably just a bad bite. If she's not better, that means that she's got other problems and that she might need knee surgery. Poor kitty!

What Kathleen neglected to say is that Cosette started the fight. Arwen was acting in self defense. It's not Arwen's fault that she's stronger and more agile than Cosette. Or that Cosette hasn't figured this out. I'm sorry that Cosette got hurt, but I'm also sorry that Arwen is getting blamed for it.

Even our Belle has figured out that when you run outside unsupervised you might get skunked and doesn't dash out the door every chance she gets any more. If dumb Belle can figure that out, you'd think Cosette could figure out that she can't beat Arwen up.

You've owned multiple cats before. Have any of them gotten hurt during a fight? I've had two cats before, and they never hurt one another. Yes...[livejournal.com profile] cosettemonster started it, but [livejournal.com profile] arwenmonster is psycho. Once I tried brushing her and she clobbered me upside the head. And it hurt! That's part of the reason why she got shaved...because she wouldn't cooperate and I couldn't handle it anymore...

Cats fight all the time to establish dominance, but if they start hurting one another, then something is wrong...

No, actually, we've never had cats that actively fought with each other. Hissed a little and run away at worst.

Perhaps if you were nice to both of them at the same time? So they would know that you love them both? (Even if you don't? :) And try Feliway -- it's a hormone that is supposed to make cats calmer. We tried it when Snickers was peeing everywhere. It didn't help then, but since Arwen and Cosette are on edge, it might help now. Emily says there is something that sprays it around in the room. I (and Emily and Dr. Mary) think it's worth a try.
