Cat torture

Since cosettemonster started getting barfy on Sunday on the Clavamox, the vet switched her to a new medication that is supposed to be easier on the stomach. She's supposed to take one and a half pills once a day. I had a hell of a time getting her to sit still to take one and a half pills as well as her pain medication. In fact, she spit one of the pills out and I had to hunt her down and make sure she took it. It took a couple of tries! I wonder if I can give her one pill in the morning and one pill at night to spread the torture things out a bit more so she doesn't get fed up and struggle as much.

It's not really surprising that she had trouble with the first antibiotic (was it clavamox?) given that she already has digestive issues.

That's once a day dosing typically, but if you're unable to get it into her, it's available as an injection. (Just ask doomsey, shooting cats up is MUCH easier than pilling them.)

You could also call and double check with the vet to see if it's ok to split up the dosage -- I'm pretty sure that it's been done before (usually with animals that are sensitive to the full dose).

perditathecat is not an easy cat to pill, but even she learned to deal with it when she had a course of antibiotics - I think she finally figured out that it was going to happen and if she let it happen then it would be over soon.

One of my previous cats figured out that when she went downstairs to watch me put food in her bowl (which she ate upstairs), she'd get medicine, so the answer was not to go downstairs with me. :) Wrong, but very good cat logic.

There's a little treat you can get at the vet's that have a little hole in one end (think green olive) and you put the pill in the hole (think pimento) and then you wrap it up (think pirogi). They worked for my kitty, and I used them on the dogs, too!

(Does anyone know how to spell pirogi?)

According to google, it's pierogi. Sometimes, if I don't know how a word is spelled, I'll type it into google and it will say, "did you mean:" In other words, google will correct your spelling if you type the word as a part of a search.

That is a good idea. I usually look in my actual hardcover dictionary, I'm pretty quick looking stuff up. Sometimes, I'll open Word and see what spell check says. My dictionary is just as fast, though. This time I was being layzie. ;p
