I don't know anymore...

I've got two really annoying things going on. My neck sprain is acting up again. My neck hurts and sometimes I get this buzzing feeling in the back of my head. I wish it would stop doing that. I do the exercises that my physical therapist gave me this fall, and that seems to be helping a bit. The second problem is that I think I have a kidney infection or something. Almost every day, my back starts hurting (right around the kidneys) sometime between 1:00 and 5:00 in the afternoon. It really hurts like a mofo until I take Tylenol. Then, it goes away and doesn't show up until the next day. That's weird. I have no idea what's going on with that. The doctor did a culture last week, but she hasn't gotten back to me yet. She says that it takes four to five days. I hope she'll have something for me by tomorrow otherwise I'm going to fucking scream.

Yesterday I did good until I went to a play at the Goodman with my husband's family. Earlier in the day, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I went grocery shopping. I drove for the first time in a month actually. Then, during the second half of the play, I kept feeling like I was having a hard time breathing / getting enough oxygen. This was probably around ten o'clock. Then, I got really winded heading over to Peterrino's for dinner, which was in the same building. Everybody seems to think that my asthma was acting up. After we got seated, I had a *major* panic attack...most likely brought on by the asthma attack. It was awful. I was afraid that I was going to pass out and end up getting hauled off to the closest ER. (That would have really sucked since we were celebrating [livejournal.com profile] judygs' birthday). Luckily, that didn't happen. I took a Xanax, my inhaler, and lots of water. That seemed to work because things got better after that. I still don't understand quite what happened yesterday. It's possible that I'm coming down with a cold since my throat hurt when I woke up and my nose was stuffed up a bit. I'm feeling a bit congested now actually. That would make it difficult to breathe. I also may have overdone it yesterday since we were out until midnight and I hadn't had a nap.

I don't know. I'm frustrated. I just want to cry right now. From what I've been reading, it's going to take three to four months for me to get my breath back again. That and the cold, snowy winter we've been having is making things difficult. This is definitely THE WORST WINTER EVER!!! Hmm...maybe I need to migrate south for winter this year.

Yikes! So sorry, hon. I hope you feel better.
Re kidney infection, I can only tell you of my experience, but you'd have a pretty substantial fever if you had a kidney infection, so maybe it's just another part of the whole pulled nerve thing. I hope so.

WATCH PUPPY BOWL, WILL MAKE YOU HAPPY.

Because of a weird health issue, I used to get kidney and bladder infections as a kid, and I don't remember having a fever during them. I remember that, during a kidney infection, my back would hurt like hell. That's kind of what this feels like. I wouldn't be surprised if I had one because I was in the hospital earlier this month after all, and they are a breeding ground for infections. My cellmate roommate had an infection that had gotten into her blood stream. It could also be the way I'm sitting too from the way it shows up in the afternoon and then disappears. Who knows? I guess I'll have an answer by Monday or Tuesday.

I am so sorry! Hope your doctor finds out what it is and fix it immediatly..

You could also migrate north - we've hardly had a winter here in Sweden this year.

Thinking of another possibility . . .

If it's not a kidney infection, then it can be lower back pain. The QL muscle (quadratus lumbarum) refers pain outward to the area that can be construed to as "the kidney area."

I've seen it a lot in clinic -- especially if the client has been forced to do a lot of sitting or lying down over a short period of time (more so than they normally would). Normally, it presents itself as sort of a dull pain over the back of the lower, free floating ribs. It might be something you want to address with your physical therapist if the kidney tests come out negative.

Listen, if you want, I DO do house calls. I'm willing to cut some pretty darn good deals in exchange for trading business cards and vouching for me to your friends. If you're interested, let me know on anime night. As always, I'm good for a little neck massage on anime night too... but it sounds like you need a full work out.

It is, in fact, possible that the pain you are having is a side-effect of your lung issues. My pain is at the top of my kidneys (bottom of my lungs) and the doctors' first thought was that I might be having kidney problems. Because you're having trouble breathing you're working the muscles in a different way/amount than you usually do. Try a heating pad and see if that makes a difference.
