I am originally from the Chicago area. Several years ago, I went to a week-long conference in San Antonio, and the university put us up in the dorms. One evening, I was getting ready to turn in. While I was flossing, I looked in the mirror and noticed some movement behind me. I slowly turned around to find myself face to face with THE BIGGEST cockroach I had EVER seen. I remember that it was on the wall behind me twitching its antennae uncertainly back and forth. It must have been trying to say hello or something. I was so grossed out by the thing that I wouldn't even get near it. In my attempt to kill the cockroach, I threw a shoe at it. Yeah...that didn't work so well. It ran and I screamed. Fortunately, my suite-mate, an older lady from Oklahoma, heard my plight and came to the rescue. She just grabbed some toilet paper, picked up the critter, folded it in half (it went crunch!), folded it again in quarters, threw it in the toilet, and flushed. In the morning, I asked housecleaning if they could spray my room while I was out. I also asked for and got a can of bug spray. I figured that, if I saw anything like that again, I would just spray the living daylights out of it with a can of Raid until it was dead.

So...yeah...if the bug is big enough to go crunch when you step on it, I'm grossed out by it.

I also don't like spiders or centipedes. One time, when I was in college, I was typing a paper on the computer downstairs. My new kitten, [livejournal.com profile] cosettemonster, was downstairs playing, and I heard her puttering around by my feet. I felt something brush my leg, and I ignored it thinking that it was the cat. Then, I felt something brushing up against my leg again. I thought it was weird because it was above the hem of my pant leg and whatever it was was on my skin. I looked down and didn't see the cat. I started shaking my leg, and a few seconds later, a centipede fell out. Gross! It turns out that my silly cat was playing with the centipede on the floor and she managed to chase it up my pant leg. Silly kitty!

Wow, I wouldn't like to see a big cockroach.

Silly kitty, indeed. It's very uncomfortable having a bug on your leg.

What you ran into was a Texas roach. Everything's bigger in Texas!
