I was driving home from the hardware store today, and saw this drunk guy wandering aimlessly down the street a few blocks from my house. Geez. Isn’t it a little bit early to start drinking? He looked to be about sixty or seventy years old. I think he might be homeless because his face is filthy and his clothes are torn. Sheesh. I hope he doesn’t start any trouble. I have too much work to do and I don’t have the time or energy to deal with this.

Anyhow, I’m going to go put out the ant traps now and possibly do more weeding. Afterwards, I’m going to get some grading done and try to squeeze in a load of laundry. This weekend is going to be very busy, and I’m not going to get a chance to do laundry until Monday. That, and we’re going to a wedding on Saturday and a graduation on Sunday. I need clean clothes!

Ants...

If the ants are outdoors...you should leave them alone. Usually the "red ants" we see in Illinois are pretty harmless pavement ants. Depending on diet...black ants can look kind of reddish.

The main way to tell is if you find a anthill...put a stick in it. If they immediately start swarming...and I mean swarming up the stick...they're fire ants. Everything else is harmless unless they're getting into your house. House ants make a sort of funky fruit smell when they nest in your walls.

I used to take Rice Krispies outside and put them around an anthill when I was a kid...and then kickback to watch them disappear. Great way to spend a summer afternoon...
