They're saying that Gustav could be worse than Katrina. It's been upgraded to a Category 4, and they think that it could reach as high as a Category 5. By the time it makes landfall, it will be at the very least a three. Ray Nagin has just ordered a mandatory evacuation of New Orleans. Earlier in the day, they were saying that those who don't get out now are going to be on their own. Ugh. My heart goes out to the folks on my friends list who have family there.

And if this isn't a sign from above, I don't know what is: "Gustav is forecast to make landfall around the same time as the Republican Party opens its convention in St. Paul, Minnesota." Source.

Sheesh.

It's tragic really. That city has so much history. I would have loved to visit before Katrina hit, but it seems like so much has changed since then...

I was fortunate to have visited before Katrina hit.
Several-many years ago during a technical convention, though I didn't get too far outside the French Quarter and the areas we were convening in and the like, but I did get to see a bit of the city proper..

That must be scary to see a hurricane that strong make landfall. I'm wishing New Orleans for the best as well.

I just utterly hope that they don't get hit like that again! It would really suck!
