Yes We Can...Has Tickets?

For those of you who read my Twitter posts, on Tuesday afternoon, I signed up to receive a ticket for Obama's election night rally in Grant Park. I received the email from the Obama website at 2:30, and I applied for the tickets at 3:00. I think that I may have gotten tickets and wasn't wait-listed, but I'm not sure. This was the confirmation email I got:

"***THIS IS NOT A TICKET. THIS EMAIL CONFIRMS THAT YOU HAVE SIGNED UP TO RECEIVE AN
ELECTION NIGHT EVENT TICKET. ***

You will receive further ticketing information in the coming days.

The email is rather ambiguous. So...does that mean I'm going to get a ticket? I forwarded the email to doomsey, and he thinks that I am indeed going to receive one. From what I've read online, people who were wait-listed received a confirmation message saying something to that effect after they signed up. Hmmm...

I'm trying not to get my hopes up and celebrate until I have the tickets in my hand...well...more like in my email in-box. But if I do manage to score tickets, that will be really cool because, hopefully, (keeps fingers crossed) I'll get the chance to see history in the making. This evening, I told my best friend that this will probably be something to tell the grandkids about. Going to this would totally make my year, which has not really been a good one up until this point.

Honest! I swear! If I get these tickets, I'm going to stop complaining that 2008 has been the worst year ever!

It's a risky process, but it can be done. You put the dragon code in your browser window... http://dragcave.net/getdragon/___ Then you spam refresh it (by hitting F5) as I abandon it. The advantage is that you know the code and can go right to the page, where as someone else would have to poke in the abandons page at exactly the right time. It's easier to do over AIM or something, so you can see *exactly* when it's dropped.

It sounds to me like it's a confirmation that you "requested" a ticket. Almost like when you drop off an online resume and they send you a confirmation e-mail saying that they received your application and they will contact you with more information. I hope you get one though. For good or ill, Tuesday night will be history in the making.

I plugged the message I got into google and did some reading. It looks like there are two types of email that went out. People who applied before about four got the email I described in my original post. Another told the recipients that they were wait-listed and that, if there was room for them, they would be sent a ticket. No one has said that they've been emailed a ticket yet.

Weird. I guess I'll find out soon enough. I just wish I knew already one way or the other so that, if I did end up with a ticket, I could start making plans about how I'm getting down there and what I can/should bring with me. I'm probably going to dig out my money belt and not bother bringing a purse. I can fit my asthma inhaler, phone, and camera in a pants or jacket pocket.

Okay, for what it is worth - I received the exact same email myself as well, after signing up :)

Did you and Dan also get tickets, or just you?

I'm actually working downtown on that same very day, so my plan (which was to drive in) is to theoretically stay down there, and attend the festivities..

Ticket or no ticket, there should likely be a number of happenings going on!

Well...I think chances are good that we both got tickets. If that's the case, I'll be taking Dan as my +1. If we get tickets, do you want to meet up somewhere? I told Dan about your comment, and he remarked that he hadn't seen you in while. I have a class in the afternoon, but I'm planning on teaching my students what they need to know and then letting them out early. Then, I'll pick up Dan and head downtown. I'm thinking we'll park the car over by Forest Park L and ride the train in.

I hope we both get tickets. This is going to be exciting! :)

Yup. I got the same email. I don't know if you heard my squee post. I made a voice post this afternoon. So, you want to meet up. I'm in Milwaukee tonight, but will be back tomorrow evening. Did you want to try calling doomsey? If he doesn't want to make plans, maybe he can pass on my cell phone number?

I'll chalk it up to a typo or memory thing on my part.. Mine also says 6-7 :)
