My six year old nephew, who is somewhat over-sensitive, asked my mother-in-law if his mother's knee would be better in a hundred years. My mother-in-law said that his mother would be dead in a hundred years so it didn't matter. Bwa? Anyhow, the poor kid started crying and had to be calmed down.

Yeah...not the best thing to say to a little kid...

My mother-in-law actually. I don't think she meant it to be mean, she was just being her usual scatter-brained self. She's pretty dopey most of the time, partly because she's on a drug called Topamax, which we often refer to as Dopamax. On the other hand, my husband claims that she was dopey long before she started taking the Dopamax. She admitted after the fact that that was a pretty bone-headed thing to say, and that she didn't know what she was thinking at the time.

Later, I jokingly told her that, while she was at it, she should have told him that it really didn't matter anyway because he'd be dead in a hundred years too...just to complete the trauma. I'm kind of evil like that though.
