San Francisco!

I wish life weren't so crazy busy that I can sit down and read my LJ. Unfortunately, I've only been able to read things here and there when I get a chance. If there's anything going on with you that you'd like to share, drop me a note in the comments.
Last weekend was a trip to San Francisco for
recursive's wedding. We got in early Friday morning and left Sunday evening Here's what we did in nice, neat little bullet points (okay, well maybe not so neat bullet points, but here goes):
Friday:
* went to Golden Gate Park to visit the Japanese Gardens and other random attractions.
doomsey and Vik had tea while I enjoyed taiyaki. Mmmm...taiyaki. Taiyaki is usually filled with red bean paste, but this particular gem had chocolate. (I can get taiyaki filled with red bean paste at Mitsuwa, a Japanese grocery store that is not too far from me).
* drove the rest of the way to Ocean Beach and looked at the ocean.
* went to the Presidio and took pictures of the bridge. (I should really sort through my pictures and post a few, shouldn't I? When am I going to get time to do that in the near future? Bwahahahahaha! Don't make me laugh).
* had a late lunch at The Stinking Rose, a restaurant that serves garlic with food. And I finally got to try garlic ice cream. It was very creamy so they must have added garlic extract to it and not little bits of garlic. It had a little bit of a kick to it, but not much. I kind of liked it actually.
* went to Muir Woods to see Redwoods. We left San Francisco at six o'clock in the evening and made it there around six thirty. The park closed at eight. That left us with about an hour and a half to walk some of the trails. And no, this wasn't my idea. We had gotten together with four or five other people, and someone had the bright idea to drive over to Muir Woods during rush hour; the rest of us decided to just go along with it. Never underestimate the randomness of large groups of people. Having said that, I love that place-- I was in San Francisco ten years and got to see Muir Woods then-- so I didn't complain too much. And I had a good time. I even posed so that
doomsey could take pictures. Okay, well half of those pictures were of me making funny faces at the camera, but details details.
* fell into bed exhausted.
doomsey and I opted to not get dinner because not only were we still full from lunch, but we were pretty damn tired.
Saturday:
* went to
recursive and Tien's wedding. It was very beautiful. I particularly loved Tien's dress, which she had woven and sewed herself. It must have taken at least a year.
* drank too much wine at the wedding. Tien's brother made the wine himself and it was amazing. I think my favorite was the white dessert wine.
* went to a bar in Oakland with some friends. I didn't drink very much because all they had was beer, which I don't care for very much. It was just as well because I was still nice and buzzed from the wedding.
Sunday:
* went to China town to get dim sum with some friends who also live in Chicago. The not so good? Said friends got a phone call saying that their cat had died unexpectedly while they were away. :(
* went to the airport to catch our flight back home. We were *supposed* leave there at two o'clock in the afternoon San Francisco time, but we didn't leave until seven o'clock in the evening because the air conditioner on the plane broke. When they discovered that they couldn't fix it, they had to get another plane from the San José airport. I'm very glad that they didn't out and out cancel the flight because the other flights to Chicago that evening were booked solid and I would have been shit up a creek with work. We finally landed in Chicago at one o'clock in the morning.
* rushed to get stuff ready for work in the morning.
Monday:
* complained a lot because I was tired and cranky.
All in all, I had a good time. On the other hand, while I enjoyed San Francisco a lot, I still think that Seattle is my favorite US city.
Hmmm...this got kind of long. Maybe I'll write about what went on this week in another post.

Date: 2010-06-22 05:55 am (UTC)Tell me about it! I still have some Florida pics (everything after the Shuttle launch), a bunch of Phoenix pic (basically everything but the James Marsters Q&A), Minneapolis w00tstock, and now MPR's Wits show w/John Hodgman (and many other Johns). When will I find time? 0.o
