Date: 2007-10-02 03:18 pm (UTC)The Burmese ties with China are so strong...that they really have no choice but to put down protest...or they'll lose Chinese investment. The rest of the world has pulled out of Burma...which in this case is a bad move...because it just leaves the country wide open for Chinese expansionism.
And though the government encourages tourism...tourist areas of Burma are maintained using forced labor.
But the only economic product that Burma "exports" is illegal drugs and young girls for the sex trade. So I don't see anyone taking a real interest.
