Except for having a busy day on Saturday, not much has been going on with me. On Saturday evening, I went to a lovely Lammas / New Moon ritual. After that was over, I dropped by a friend's house for the tail end of their Casino Royale party. They only not so good thing that happened to me that evening was that I got bit by mosquitoes at both events. Many many mosquitoes. I must have at the very least ten mosquito bites on me. Not cool, not cool at all.

Oh...I was a bad [livejournal.com profile] nekosensei yesterday and didn't go for my walk. It was too humid outside and I didn't feel up to being both itchy and sweaty. Yeah...I know...no excuse. No cookies for me. :)

That's it with me. Time for some links:

- A Turkish man accused of beating his wife is now claiming that he was dancing the kolbasti and that a passer-by mistook it for domestic violence. I tried to be open-minded, but after looking a few videos of people dancing the kolbasti on YouTube, I decided that I just had to call bullshit on this one. How can you possibly confuse wife beating with this dance? Yeah...I'm just not seeing it. What do you guys think?

It looks like a cool dance, by the way. Anybody want to teach me? :)

- Anybody still arguing that global warming does not exist either has their head in the sand or is just plain blind.

- How to Be Alone -- Go watch it. It's very poignantly stated. (Via [livejournal.com profile] muntahz)

- And last, but not least...Heeere's Kitteh! Muhahahahahah!

Mosquito bites are no fun. :(

One of the BBC links don't work for me.

Yikes on the fires, drought, and smog in Russia. I hope this place and Pakistan recovers soon. Looks scary. D:

Haha, psycho kitty!

How could that ever be confused with dancing??? Sorry I don't by it but men can say shit like that and still get off. He didn't really mean it, he is a good man, etc..

No, no, really, it was a muscle twitch. Purely unconscious.
Grrrr. At least he actually IS on trial for it, which puts Turkey about fifteen steps above most of the countries in the region.

Actually, the trial is taking place in New Zealand. The family emigrated Turkey to New Zealand.

Turkey hands out life sentences for aggrivated rape. He's probably looking at 30 years for domestic battery...and will have a 2 in 5 chance of surviving his prison sentence.

The issue with the Turkish penal system isn't that they don't protect women...it's that the sentence for killing someone, male or female, is less than the sentence for rape, domestic abuse, statutory rape, child molestation or even deflowering a virgin.

Whether that's more or less enlightened than the American system of justice...remains to be seen.

Actually, the trial is taking place in New Zealand. The family emigrated Turkey to New Zealand. If he had been accused in Turkey, chances are that we wouldn't have heard about any of this because their justice system wouldn't fall for it and they would have told him that he was full of shit already. I think what this guy is doing is playing the race card. "Hey! They accused me of battering my wife while I was dancing my traditional dance. Them Westerners are so damned culturally insensitive."

Now, the interesting thing to see if the New Zealand courts buy it and acquit the guy.
