* This is pretty much what my day looked like yesterday: work, work, and more work, mad dentist appointment dash, clean up the house because my family is coming over for dinner next week, work, go to dinner at my in-laws' house, play with the Karaoke machine and surf the web until I fall over.

* I was due to have X-rays taken during this latest dentist app-- which they did-- and no cavities or any other problems turned up. Yay! Clean bill of health. On the other hand, the oral hygienist did point out that teeth with crowns on them are more prone to problems with the roots and surrounding tissues; some of the sensitivity I've been having could be the beginning stages of that. If that's the case, then I *might* need a root canal somewhere down the line. Anybody ever have a root canal? How expensive are they? Are they painful? (Yep...I'm a wuss when it comes to pain).

* My cats act strangely every time I pull out the Karaoke machine. They start out by hovering. Then, Cosette trills, pokes at me, and in general, tries to get my attention. Arwen bites my leg before harassing Cosette, who has been busy harassing me. They never used to do this before my pulmonary embolism when I had to give up singing for awhile. So why are they doing this now? Do they think I'm sick or in pain?

* Today, I have to work, set up a character for a LARP (Live Action Role Playing Game), and study for German class.

* Wow...somebody really wants that poor Swedish cartoonist dead. Isn't that the second woman that's been arrested?

I guess it's not really appropriate to tell Kill Bill jokes here, is it?

* Yay! [livejournal.com profile] doomsey is home from downstate!

* Just finished an outline for my character for the LARP. Reading through the documentation and coming up with a rough sketch took me much longer than what I expected. And I'm still going to have to go to the character building session to get some help with choosing useful skills, advantages, and disadvantages. So far, my character is a snooty half-elf with a penchant for fire sorcery. And some of the backstory I came up with should be amusing. This is going to be so much fun...I can't wait until we start playing.

* Never did get to studying some more for German. Oh well...there's always tomorrow.

* Cute car. Now, my question is, what happened to the Volt? Is GM still going to be able to make it?

I had a root canal once. They numb you pretty well, so the worst part is getting the shots and when the shots wear off afterwards- I remember my gums being sore from the spacers they had put in during the procedure and from the shots. The procedure itself is painless. You get kind of tired of holding your mouth open, but that's it.

I was afraid of needles when I was a kid and so I refused any shots when I did my root canal at age eleven. The dentist was all "Ok, so one nurse will hold your hand and the other one will hold your head and when you make the slightest twitch I'll stop immediately and we will give you the shots". But back then I was more afraid of the needle than of pain and so I did it all without anesthesia. I just remember it as a couple of very sharp pains not a second each. This extraction I've just had was much more traumatic.

Wow. I daresay the dentist was over-reacting? My dentist didn't even *offer* shots for the second part of the procedure.

Well I am happy that they didn't force me to take the shot even though I was just a kid. They let me feel that I was in control of what was happening to me and that action of the dentist probably spared me dentist phobia later in life. I do think that they totally believed I'd accept the shot at the first hint of pain though..

Oh this *was* the procedure - not some afterwork.

I've had a root canal done, and so has my brother. They're not painful, really, except for any anaesthesia shots you might get and after the first 'cleaning' (the tooth itself hurt for a couple of hours, but it's not sharp pain). The procedure was done in two parts -- the first was getting the bugger cleaned out (which included a shot numbing half my face and the annoying pain) and a week later, further cleaning and filling out (which included no anaesthesia and only a couple momentary shots of pain if one of the cleaning needles went too far and touched a nerve -- that's less than a second and may not happen, though). Getting normal fillings I found more traumatizing.

I can't tell you how much it cost exactly, for one I don't remember, two, international prices may vary... but for all it's worth, about a hundred bucks. Root canals are pricey, unfortunately.

Hmmm...a hundred bucks for a root canal doesn't sound too pricey. The cleaning with X-rays that I had done on Friday cost a little bit over two hundred.

Whoa, it's way more than $100. I think I had to pay half and it was about $300. I was required to pay up front. And that was for the root canal only, not the cost of the crown.

The guy that I went to did his part in one visit. The only thing I remember hurting was having my mouth open. Otherwise, the drilling just felt weird, and the shots, I think he might have put numbing gel on the spots he gave me the shots. Really, it was the keeping my mouth open that was the worst.
