Yeah...I've been neglecting my LJ nowadays, haven't I? Lately, everything that's happened to me can either be summed up in 140 characters on Twitter or talked about in a weekly picture-a-day post...

Having said that, onto the pictures...

Weekend

Wow...is it Sunday night already? I had a pretty good time this weekend. On Saturday, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I went with his family to see "Rock 'N Roll" by Tom Stoppard The play itself was okay, but I didn't like it as much as the one we saw last week. I did, on the other hand, enjoy the music. After the play, we went to Reza's downtown. I think that's one of my favorite places to go to after the plays. They have a good selection, and the food is always delicious. I know this must sound boring, but every time I go there, I usually end up ordering zetsche polo-- a rice dish with saffron and currants-- on the side. Very yummy!

Today, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I visited [livejournal.com profile] forestdruid's mom to pick up some tomato seedlings she had for us. We also got a quick tour of her garden, which is beautiful. She's put a lot of time into it. For awhile now, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I have been considering buying a tree for a part of our yard that used to have a shed on it when the previous owners owned the house. Said section has always looked somewhat barren. After talking with [livejournal.com profile] forestdruid's mom, I think [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I decided that we would plant a Japanese maple there. I've always thought they were beautiful trees.

In the afternoon, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I celebrated Mother's Day at my parents' house. We left in the late afternoon, and met up with [livejournal.com profile] doomsey's parents for dessert. Afterward, we watched the last episode of Dollhouse. I thought it was amazing, and I hope that they pick it up for a second season. [livejournal.com profile] doomsey, however, is more pessimistic about the show's chances than I am. It'd be a real shame if they canceled it. It always seems like the television studios cancel the shows that are intelligently written...

And it looks like I've been neglecting my dragons again. Please click on them so they don't croak!

Aside from yesterday's freak out, the past two weekends have been fun.

Let's see. Last Saturday, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey, his family, and I went to see Ain't Misbehaving-- a musical revue of Thomas Wright "Fats" Waller's music-- at the Goodman Theater. It was an amazing show.

Sunday was my niece's birthday party. [livejournal.com profile] emygination, the kids, and I ended up swimming in the pool even though it was a tad bit cool outside. That's the day I also discovered the usefulness of Nerf guns.

On Thursday, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I took the train into the city. We hung around the Art Institute during the afternoon and in the evening, we met up with various friends at our usual meeting place in Grant Park to see the fireworks. After the fireworks, we walked to Greek Islands for dinner, where I got burned by a hot plate of saganaki and threw my fork. By the time [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I got home at one-thirty to two o'clock in the morning, I was wiped. We had probably walked six or seven miles that day.

Friday was the Fourth of July party at [livejournal.com profile] voidness' house. During the day, C. and I went to see if it was too late for me to do Lombard Idol at the Taste of Lombard fest. It turns out that you had to audition back in June. I promised C. that I would definitely look into doing it next year. That evening, we saw more fireworks, followed by another private fireworks display *cough cough* in a friend's backyard. By the way, there's a firework out there called "The Big Mother" which I hear was only purchased for twenty dollars. It turned out to be quite impressive. I got to cross the state line and get my hot little hands on it next year.

Saturday, [livejournal.com profile] judygs, [livejournal.com profile] bmtstandard, and [livejournal.com profile] emygination went to Ren Faire. I would have liked to have gone, but I was too beat from events on Thursday and Friday. I also had work that I needed to get done.

Yesterday, I met up with my parents, my sister, and my niece, E. I'm surprised by how big E. is getting. She's walking much more confidently now and she's saying a lot of words. She's very vocal for her age and she loves books. I have a feeling that she's going to be one smart cookie when she gets older.

Today, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I went with his family (his grandmother was in town) to our niece's dance recital. In a couple of the performances, there was this one girl who obviously had an eating disorder. I'm guessing that she was a Freshman or a Sophomore in high school, but it was hard to say for sure. It was heart-breaking because the poor girl was rail thin. I had a hard time focusing on the dance or what the rest of the performers on stage were doing because I kept staring at her. She looked so unhealthy that it was frightening. At one point, she stumbled a bit during her performance, and I felt my heart sink. The girl was nothing but skin and bones and she reminded me of a dancing skeleton. I have no idea if she's is going to survive or not if she doesn't get help.

Why do women and girls do this to themselves? Why? Seriously, I think more parents need to sit their daughters down and talk about self-image, what's a realistic weight, and what's not (Hollywood...I'm looking at you).

This might be entirely the wrong approach and not my business, but if I were her dance instructor, I would say something either to her, her parents, or both. Hell, I probably wouldn't let her dance unless she took some steps towards getting therapy and getting herself to a healthy weight.

What's wrong with our culture? Attractive women are supposed to have curves...not look like sick, emaciated waifs.

On Friday evening, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey, [livejournal.com profile] judygs, [livejournal.com profile] emygination, T, and I went to the Dollar Store Show at the Hideout. As always, the stories were very good. Afterwards, we went back to T's house, ate pizza, and watched The Man from Earth. By the way, I *loved* the movie. Seriously, go watch it.

On Saturday, I went to [livejournal.com profile] skulde13's baby shower.

Today, a bunch of us went to Happy Chef in Chinatown for dim sum. Yummy! Then, we got pastries, had bubble tea, and did some shopping. Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] forestdruid who pruned our rose bush in our back yard. I had no clue what I was doing with it and the rose bush really needed the attention. [livejournal.com profile] forestdruid also took a look at my garden and pointed out the other plants that were growing in there that I didn't know I had. They probably came from seeds that were buried too deep and that were brought to the surface when I turned up the soil this spring. I have some cilantro, a bean, and maybe some parsley growing out there. Awesome! I'll have to keep an eye on them over the summer and see if they produce anything.

Yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey's family and I went to Medieval Times to see the show there. This time, we had good seats because [livejournal.com profile] judygs managed to get us seats in the noble section, which comprised the first two rows. As always, the food was good. I also enjoyed the falconry (I love hawks and other birds of prey) as well as the white show horses. One of the knights tossed a flower in our general direction. I don't know if it was meant for our row or the one above us, but it fell between the two rows. [livejournal.com profile] emygination picked it up and handed it to me. I, in turn, handed it to Rayna since she would probably appreciate it more.

Because of the noise at Medieval Times, I ended up getting another migraine. This time, I took my migraine meds, and I think I ended up getting a bit loopy because of all the meds I was on. At one point, I stole crowns from [livejournal.com profile] doomsey's family and put them all on my head. I think I managed to wear four crowns at one time. [livejournal.com profile] doomsey has proof of this on camera, which I'm not going to post.

Today, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I met up with his parents and his Uncle Marty for brunch at Egg Harbor Cafe. By the way, the Bannana Bread French Toast was awesome. Afterwards, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I went to the Labor Day party at [livejournal.com profile] voidness' house. A bunch of us played a game called Betrayal at the House on the Hill, which was based on (and poked fun at) B-rated horror films. Hmmm...that's a game to consider buying because it was a lot of fun. I also brought my knitting with to [livejournal.com profile] voidness' party, and I managed to get a lot accomplished while I was talking with people or playing games. I wonder if I'm midly OCD because sometimes I want to do something with my hands. Knitting really does help with that.

Not much to say. T, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey, and I went to see the Dollar Store Show at the Hideout Friday night. We grabbed a quick dinner and went to see a band, Sybris (don't know if I'm spelling that right), play at the Subterranean. They were pretty good actually.

On Saturday, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey, [livejournal.com profile] emygination, [livejournal.com profile] judygs, [livejournal.com profile] bmtstandard, one of [livejournal.com profile] doomsey's friends from school, and I went to see "In the Continuum" at the Goodman Theater. It was an excellent play. Afterwards, we went to Greek Islands for dinner.
