And that's it! I'm done! I might drag out the camera and take pictures every couple of weeks or so and post the better ones to [livejournal.com profile] naturesbeauty or [livejournal.com profile] lj_photophile, but I'm not taking a picture every day anymore. I need a break from my camera!

Food Fail

This afternoon, a bunch of us tried to get lunch in our town. The first three restaurants we tried were closed: one only served dinner, the other was on special holiday hours, and the third went out of business. We also wanted to look at a nearby yarn shop. You guess it! It was closed on Wednesdays.

Seriously...what the hell?

I'm three weeks behind! Time to catch up!

* Don't start imitating wolf howls when you're anywhere near [livejournal.com profile] emygination's dog, Lucy. She will start licking your face........a lot.

* [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I went out with Sam, Gracie, and their daughter Claire to a new all you can eat sushi restaurant called Yummy Gourmet on Saturday afternoon. Their sushi was slightly better than Sushi Para's and they had much better service. It's also a bigger restaurant and can accommodate more people.

* Saturday evening, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I saw The Watchmen. Speaking of movies, one of these days I should watch Repo: the Genetic Opera. I've been meaning to see that one for a long time.

* This afternoon, I had a *horrible* asthma attack right before I had to leave for work. I was in a rush to get things done before I left, and I think I did too much running up and downstairs. It ended with me having to take my rescue inhaler. I *hate* taking it because it's a stimulant, and I get very jittery afterward. Then, when the "high" wears off, I feel very drained. On the bright side, at least I'm not drinking caffeine anymore. What I hated the worst was having to take my inhaler after drinking a soda. I would get extremely jittery, so much so that I would hardly be able to write.

* Obnoxious paperwork is obnoxious.

* Will it never stop raining? My pictures of the day last week were boring because it pretty much rained the whole damn week, and I couldn't get outside to take pictures of the fall foliage.

* I thought I had more to say, but I guess not.

Weekend

Wow...is it Sunday night already? I had a pretty good time this weekend. On Saturday, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I went with his family to see "Rock 'N Roll" by Tom Stoppard The play itself was okay, but I didn't like it as much as the one we saw last week. I did, on the other hand, enjoy the music. After the play, we went to Reza's downtown. I think that's one of my favorite places to go to after the plays. They have a good selection, and the food is always delicious. I know this must sound boring, but every time I go there, I usually end up ordering zetsche polo-- a rice dish with saffron and currants-- on the side. Very yummy!

Today, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I visited [livejournal.com profile] forestdruid's mom to pick up some tomato seedlings she had for us. We also got a quick tour of her garden, which is beautiful. She's put a lot of time into it. For awhile now, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I have been considering buying a tree for a part of our yard that used to have a shed on it when the previous owners owned the house. Said section has always looked somewhat barren. After talking with [livejournal.com profile] forestdruid's mom, I think [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I decided that we would plant a Japanese maple there. I've always thought they were beautiful trees.

In the afternoon, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I celebrated Mother's Day at my parents' house. We left in the late afternoon, and met up with [livejournal.com profile] doomsey's parents for dessert. Afterward, we watched the last episode of Dollhouse. I thought it was amazing, and I hope that they pick it up for a second season. [livejournal.com profile] doomsey, however, is more pessimistic about the show's chances than I am. It'd be a real shame if they canceled it. It always seems like the television studios cancel the shows that are intelligently written...

And it looks like I've been neglecting my dragons again. Please click on them so they don't croak!

Randomness

-- Oops! I managed to kill off my first eggs on Dragon Cave. Adopt one today!Adopt one today! Heh heh. Whoopsie!

I think part of the problem is that, while I have been reading my friends list, I haven't been writing very many posts. With the exception of the picture-a-day project, I've been posting memes and updates from LoudTwitter.

-- Here's something that I meant to write about last week, but never got around to. On Easter Sunday, my family and I starting joking around about what toys we wanted relatives to bring us when we were old and living in a nursing home. My brother-in-law said that he wanted toy dinosaurs. I guess I have expensive tastes because I told them that I would like a wii, and I would also like to take up something like World of Warcraft. I could just imagine this conversation going down:

Nurse: Okay, neko, it's time to take your meds.
Me: Not now! I'm on a raid with the guy in Room 116!!!

-- This weekend, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey went downstate to go to a friend's dissertation defense. Since he was there for two days, I was left to my own devices on Friday and part of Saturday. All last week, I had a major craving for chilaquiles and horchata, so on Friday night, I went to the local Mexican joint and picked some up for dinner. Most importantly, it had meat! That's something I don't get so much of anymore since [livejournal.com profile] doomsey is a vegetarian. Well...actually he's a pescatarian since he will eat fish, but details details. By the way, I like calling him a pescatarian because the first syllable sounds like pest. Tee hee! :)

On Saturday, I took advantage of the beautiful weather (it was in the seventies) and turned over the soil in my vegetable garden. I'm looking forward to planting things in May. I'm not sure exactly what I'm going to be growing yet, but I'm definitely going to get some more tomato plants. Fresh, home-grown tomatoes are divine! Poblano peppers and cilantro would also be nice, but I'm going to have to see how much room I'm going to have out there. By the way, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey mentioned that [livejournal.com profile] forestdruid had some plants for me to look at...

After I finished the garden, I started mowing the lawn. I figured that [livejournal.com profile] doomsey wouldn't have much time to do it when he got back because a) we were going to Doctor Who night that evening and b) we were supposed to get rain over the next three days. That, and the backyard really needed mowing. I was also hoping to surprise dooms. Anyhow, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey pulled up while I was mowing, and he thought it would be cute to sneak up behind me and tap my shoulder in order to get my attention. He did this to me twice, and each time I practically jumped out of my skin because I couldn't hear him coming. The last time he did it I yelled, "don't DO that!" loudly. I'm sure my neighbor, who was out planting flowers, got a real kick out of the whole exchange.

Later that afternoon, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I headed over to [livejournal.com profile] blondibritecake's house for Doctor Who night. That evening's theme was the Master, who is one of my favorite Doctor Who villains, by the way, probably because I find the giggly evil types amusing.

*checks non-existent watch on her wrist*
Oh my, look at the time! Off to bed. See you guys in the morning!

I have officially declared today Obnoxious Day. Let's see. This morning, I spilled a ton of milk and had to clean it up. About five minutes after that happened, [livejournal.com profile] cosettemonster decided today was also going to be "Funny Tummy Day" and harfed on the carpet...in multiple places. Guess who had to pick that up? After I finished breakfast, I got up to put the plates away, and when I came back, I discovered that the goddamn cat had stolen my goddamn seat. Instead of fighting with the crotchety old lady, I decided to sit elsewhere. Eventually, I wander upstairs to take a shower. I was washing my hair when, all of a sudden, one of those goddamn lady bugs that invade our house every winter flew into my hair. Cue me struggling to fish the damn thing out because the last thing I want to do this afternoon is make a fashion statement. Then, I come back downstairs to discover that the goddamn cat yurked on my goddamn seat while I was in the shower. Wonderful. I'm starting to think that [livejournal.com profile] cosettemonster does this because she thinks it's funny. She's lucky that she's cute because otherwise I would probably end up throttling her.

Finally, my asthma is acting up because I'm still congested from my cold AND the finger I slammed in a car door on Monday is hurting again.

(sigh)

How had your day been?

[Edit: [livejournal.com profile] cosettemonster is sitting next to me on another seat. I looked at her and told her that if she barfs on this one, I'm going to have to kick her ass. Then, she gave me a kiss on the nose. Damn it...I can't stay mad!]

Friday evening, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I went with his folks to Amada's Cafe for Mexican/Cuban food. I ordered chicken enchiladas in mole sauce. I also had a mojito. Mmm...mojitos. By the way, I really hope that my blood tests in March come back negative for genetic clotting disorders. I'm going to be very unhappy if I have to go back on the rat poison Coumadin again.

Saturday, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I went to not one, not two, but three parties. Party Número Uno was at my sister's house where we were celebrating my niece's second birthday. As I commented in Twitter, I had also made Peach Kuchen, which my dad said tasted like the stuff his grandmother used to make. Hey! Looks like I did it right after all!

Party Número Dos was at my best friend's house. We caught the tail-end of her birthday party, arriving just in time for cake and ice cream. [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I hadn't seen her new condo since she moved so she gave us the tour. L. also told me that she was learning how to knit, and we talked about what stitches she already knew how to do. Later, on the phone, we discussed setting up a Stitch and Bitch (or a knitting group) for those people who are interested in knitting and crochet. I think this would be very cool because I know a bunch of people now who are knitters and crocheters. L. also offered to give me singing lessons in exchange for teaching her how to knit better. I could really use this because my voice just hasn't been the same since the embolism.

Party Número Tres was the No Bush party at [livejournal.com profile] voidness' house. This was the first time since I've been off the rat poison that I've managed to get myself good and plastered. I think the rum shot at the end was a mistake though. I seem to remember two people saying that it might make me sick. Well, I wasn't worshiping the porcelain goddess, but I was feeling very headache-y and stomach ache-y after that. A little after one o'clock, I went home and slept it off. I had one hell of a headache the next morning though.

Oh...I also brought left-over Peach Kuchen and chocolate Amish friendship bread. Both were polished off before the night ended. Hee!

Sunday was boring as I spent that doing laundry and other work.

Let's see. What else? On Sunday night I joined a bunch of new LJ communities. One of them was [livejournal.com profile] rahmbamarama because the name amused me and because they seem to get metaquoted a lot. I decided to pop on over there and see exactly what kind of shenanigans they were up to. (Also, the chibis on the user info page were kind of cute). I also joined two writing communities-- [livejournal.com profile] staringout and [livejournal.com profile] the_dead_muse-- because I wanted to slowly get back into writing again and because I was feeling very out of practice. I even wrote a little story. By the way, this challenge was entertaining. Seriously, go do it.

And hey, look! New eggs!

Yesterday evening, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I went out and got Thai food for dinner. I ordered crazy noodles with broccoli and bean sprouts. Mmmm...greens! I also had Thai iced tea. For an appetizer, we split Tom Ka Kai, which is a soup made out of coconut milk. Did I mention that I *love* Tom Ka Kai? Needless to say, dinner was absolutely divine.

Since several people on my friends list have been extolling the virtues of talking about Battlestar Galactica, I decided to watch some. After we got home from dinner, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I watched the entire four hour miniseries...in on sitting. Damn, it was good! It had lots of death and destruction plus it was very dark and creepy. Just my kind of show! I guess this means that I'm going to have to watch more...

Yesterday evening, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey, [livejournal.com profile] emygination, [livejournal.com profile] judygs, [livejournal.com profile] bmtstandard, and I went to Ruby Tuesday's to celebrate the fact that I am now off my blood thinners. They have a salad bar with a lot to choose from and awesome mojitos. I ordered the shrimp trio for dinner. The following was the conversation I had with the waitress.

Me: I'd like the shrimp trio and something from the salad bar.
Waitress: The shrimp trio comes with broccoli. Is that okay?
Everyone at the table: (laughter)
Waitress: (makes confused faces)

Eventually, we explained to the waitress why we thought her question was so funny.

I had a nice couple of nights. On New Year's Eve, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I went to a friend's house where we spent much of the evening playing rock band. I did a lot of singing and I'm surprised that my voice held up the entire evening with all of the screaming I was doing. Yesterday, we went to the in-laws' house to eat the traditional dinner of pork with sauerkraut. Yummy! Also, [livejournal.com profile] almeda gave me crochet lessons. Many thanks! We also played Apples to Apples. I managed to win the green card, secretive, by making a Fargo reference. I played the noun, wood chippers. Heh! That still does not compare to the time I played the noun, Helen Keller, for the card, touchy feely. Yes, I am evil!

Anyhoo, this is my list of New Year's resolutions:
1) Exercise more (and maybe lose a few pounds)
2) Stay healthy in general
3) Learn to crochet (already started!) and continue knitting
4) Write more
5) Try to figure out some of my great-grandmother's recipes

Today, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey and I went to the Art Institute. They had a really cool exhibit on tapestries that is ending on January 4th. We also visited the Impressionist Art wing, which was closed when we visited back in July. Right now, [livejournal.com profile] doomsey is doctoring a pasta sauce. The smells coming out of the kitchen are delightful!
